Hello, all!

Welcome to the (slightly belated) October edition of #the12 newsletter. How is your October going?

I’ve been finishing up the final round of edits on book 3. (Also known as THE ENDS OF THE WORLD, in case you missed last month’s announcement!) Pushing through the final edits on a book always feels like you’re running a marathon and *might* collapse before the finish line . . . but knowing you guys want to read it one day is keeping me going. :)

In other news, I have just come back to the US after a couple months in France and the UK, and am ready to dive headfirst in to holiday season. (Yes, I count Halloween as the start of “holiday season,” what?) I adore this time of year, and am ready to put up spooky and autumnal decorations and drink chai and wear cozy slippers while I finish up edits. What are you guys doing this fall? How is school, for those of you still studying? Let me know on twitter! I’d love to chat with you.

Sigh. Is there really anything for those of us in the US to be obsessing over anything but the presidential election? I would usually avoid talking about politics in a newsletter meant for entertainment, but…well, screw it. I can tell you that I will be (proudly!) voting for Hillary Clinton. She’s smart, experienced, capable, and I’ll be happy to call her our president. For the sake of women, people of color, LGBTQ+ people, and so many more, let’s not elect Voldemort, right? If you’re in the US and of voting age, please vote. If you’re not, please talk to your loved ones who are. Your vote counts—seriously.

Archive of past newsletters!

I know some of you signed up after September’s newsletter went out (welcome!) and were sad to have missed it. (Okay, you were sad to have missed a certain scene. I get it.) I’ve finally gotten an archive together of all the past newsletters. The link to it will always be on the newsletter signup page on my website at maggiehall.com, or you can find the whole archive right here.

Want your name in THE ENDS OF THE WORLD?

There is one character I need to name (it’s a very small character, but you get to die horribly! yay?) and I’d love for the name to be one of yours.

If you’d like to enter for the chance at your first name [or a name of your choosing] being in book 3, all you have to do is:

1. Leave an honest review of CONSPIRACY OF US or MAP OF FATES on a retailer site (Amazon, Barnes and Noble
1a. Yes, you can review both books or do multiple sites for extra chances! Just let me know in the email.

2. Email me (maggiehallbooks@gmail.com) telling me you did it.

3. The winner will be chosen on Monday, Oct 24.

Anyone who does so will be entered, and I’ll draw a random person out of all the entries to have their name in the book! If you’ve already left a review any time previously, that counts too—just email me again now saying so. (I will not automatically count old reviews—the only people entered will be ones who email me this week.)

Reminder: this is a new feature in the #the12 monthly newsletter! Email/tweet/instagram/tumblr ask me a question, and I’ll pick one or two to answer each month. This month’s question:

Q: Where is your favorite place to travel to? What cities are not currently in your books but will be in the future?

A: I will probably have a different answer to this question every week. This week, I’ve been thinking a lot about Japan. I was in Tokyo at this time of year a couple years ago, and fell in love with it. The city is beautiful (Gorgeous parks! Lovely and interesting architecture!) and the food was delicious and the people were so friendly. I would love to put Tokyo in a book one day…

And as for other cities and countries that might make it into the books one day? You’ll see some places I really like in THE ENDS OF THE WORLD (spoiler alert!). I’d also love to set a book in Thailand one day, and though I had a chapter in India in MAP OF FATES, I’d love to write more there. Ooh, and Morocco! (The theme here seems to be beautiful, colorful places with great food. Maybe I’m just hungry…)

This gorgeous #TeamJack edit popped up on my Instagram this month. (Thanks, Beth from EditsByWithHerNoseStuckInABook!)

(Quick note on fan art: If you post something and want me to see it, be sure to tag me! Otherwise, I might accidentally miss it.) :)

Thanks, guys! Talk to you next month!

xMaggie

Just in case, here are more links to Map of Fates where you can review, if you’re so inclined: on Amazon and BN. And here's Conspiracy on Amazon and Barnes and Noble. (You do NOT have to have bought the book on Amazon or B&N’s site to review there!)
