Dear Friends,

Harvest is upon us...readying ourselves for the long winter ahead.  Just as farmers are busy reaping the rewards of a season of fruitfulness, PEB is experiencing God's Blessings with a significant rise in student achievement and generous funds flowing in for student scholarships and school infrastructure improvements.

One fresh and exciting improvement we want to share with you is our recently updated website! Please visit us at www.friendsofpeb.org and see for yourself.  With new links and improved PayPal features, online giving has gotten so much easier. We, PEB and the children of Pakistan thank you for your support and contributions. The gifts you give are helping to provide a brighter future for a child in need.

"And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up." ~ Galatians 6:9 ESV

ID Shahbaz Day!
On September 19th, Naulakha Church celebrated I.D Shahbaz Day which is the day that celebrates the pastor who translated Psalms into the Punjabi language (Urdu) and set them to Western tunes. Martinpur Boys' and Girls' School choirs performed for the event. Rahoul Falak Sher, who earned the highest marks (960/A+) among the students of PEB Schools, was awarded a new laptop to assist in his future studies through the generosity of Mr. Javaid Gill. In attendance: Martinpur Boys' School principal, Mr. Imran Julian; Mr. Javaid Gill; Dr. Rev. Majid Abel; PEB Executive Director, Mrs. Veda Gill; and Associate for Academics, Mrs. Venus Suleman.
Teacher Training Retreat in Pakistan

Thank you to Tami Calhoun of First Presbyterian Church, St. Cloud, MN, who generously dedicated 10 days of her summer to teach PEB teachers how to incorporate music into their schools and curriculum. Please read Tami's article to learn about her meaningful experience.  Friends of PEB welcomes U.S. educators to join our next Teacher Training Retreat to Pakistan in July 2017. Martinpur Christian Boys' School Project

In November 2015, Sam Martin joined the FOPEB Exploration Trip to visit Presbyterian Education Board schools in Pakistan. He arrived almost 150 years after his great-grandparents, Rev. Dr. Samuel and Lydia Martin had first traveled to the same region as Presbyterian missionaries. When Sam reached Martinpur, the village named for Samuel and Lydia, he discovered that almost all of Martinpur’s 4459 residents (2015 census) are Christian and very poor. When Sam asked villagers how he could help, the response was clear: provide education for our children. PEB administrators escorted Sam on a tour of the Martinpur educational facilities, and it became evident that the most desperate need is a new boys’ school.

We invite you to join Sam and his family in his efforts to build a new Martinpur boys’ school. Sam has made great strides already by securing donations of $200,000 toward the $500,000 needed for Phase 1.  Please read Sam's appeal letter for additional information and review the project sheet offering further details regarding construction plans.

To partner in this project, send checks to: Friends of PEB, Inc., PO Box 72453, Thorndale, PA  19372. Please enclose a note designating Martinpur Boys’ School, or online via PayPal to info@friendsofpeb.org.
Veda's Travels
September 23-28, 2016 Veda had the opportunity to travel to Iowa City, Cedar Rapids and Mediapolis, Iowa to share updates on their partner school, Christian Girls' School in Pasrur. She reported that Pasrur School's scores on standardized tests are extremely high and the girls have won several academic competitions. Friends of Pasrur sent two large suitcases of 206 donated stuffed animals with Veda to give to the Pasrur Girls' Christian Boarding house. For some of the girls this plush animal is their first toy. What wonderful work by Friends of Pasrur!

This month, Veda Gill has been on the move. So many engagements...so little time. October 1-4, 2016, Veda traveled to Peachtree Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, GA where she spoke before the congregation, thanking them for their long-term partnership and generous contributions to the growth of PEB.

October 12-18, 2016, Veda traveled for a week-long series of events with First Presbyterian Church of Champaign, IL. For many years the church has given its support to PEB's Christian Girls’ High School, Sangla Hill. Veda updated them on the current situation at the school by sharing a recent video showing the students going about their daily activities. Some highlights during her visit: participation in a panel discussion about girls’ education; presentation to a Presbyterian Women’s gathering; visit to a women’s shelter; attendance at a Friday prayer service at a mosque and a delicious lunch hosted by a Muslim woman and her friends; and preaching at two worship services. Veda was accompanied on the visit by Lynn Miller, Scholarship Program Coordinator for Friends of PEB. Together they raised awareness about PEB and Friends of PEB in the USA. Special thanks are extended to Sallie Hutton and the many others at First Presbyterian Church of Champaign, Illinois, who organized this extended visit, and to David and Susan Eades for hosting Lynn and Veda for the week.

If you would like to schedule Veda for a speaking engagement at your church, please contact Friends of PEB directly.

Fantastic Fundraising Find...Flamingo Flocking!
Don't you just love alliteration?  Raise money for your favorite charity (Friends of PEB...wink wink) with a good old fashion flocking.  In the middle of the night, unload a flock of flamingos on the lawn of a friend or a neighbor and watch the giving increase as the flock migrates from lawn to lawn.  Visit www.flamingofundraising.com for rules, guidelines and how-to.  Please consider this fun community bonding experience as a means to raise funds for FOPEB.

Putting this method to the test: Minnesotans for Sargodha Schools, a group of friends within First Presbyterian Church in St. Cloud MN have raised money for scholarships and health check-ups for PEB's Sargodha School boarding students. The Flamingo Flocking was launched on September 18 at the Fla-mingle Brunch after worship. Donors pay to have 50 flamingos placed in someone’s yard for 48 hours, or they can pay for insurance so their yard will not be flocked.
