The 2016 conference Capital Connections is almost here and it is exciting to think that many of us (126 at this count) will be together in Ottawa so soon. It’s going to be a fantastic time with great opportunities for learning, networking, and socializing. See our press release for some highlights.

Come to the AGM
Our Annual General Meeting will take place immediately following lunch on Monday, October 24th at the conference. All of the AGM documents are posted on the website for you to review. If you are not able to attend this meeting, there is a proxy form to complete and give to a colleague to make sure your voice is represented at the AGM.
Fee increase proposal
There are a couple of items that will be brought forward for your consideration that have to do with the sustainability of CACE. In our efforts to remain a viable organization offering the best professional development for communicators in education across Canada, we are proposing a fee increase. There has not been a fee increase in well over 10 years and so are proposing that the CACE membership fee be increased to $250 per year.
Many of our member organizations have growing communications departments. Until now CACE has offered a membership fee reduction for second and subsequent members from the same organization. We would like all those who work in education communications within one organization to have the opportunity to be CACE members. We are therefore proposing a new fee structure that would allow 2 or more people from the same organization to be CACE members for an organization fee of $600.
Both of these proposals are detailed in the Notice of Motion in the AGM documents section on the CACE website. Please take some time to consider these proposals prior to the AGM.
Meet and Greet with the CACE executive
You’ll see on the conference program 2 opportunities to meet with the CACE executive – Saturday at 4 p.m. and Sunday at 12:45 p.m. We want to hear what you have to say about CACE. We will have some informal (Saturday) and some more structured opportunities (Sunday) for you to tell us the direction you think CACE needs to head. Are you happy with the status quo? Are you looking for something new and different? What ideas do you have? We are looking forward to hearing what you have to say. If you are new to CACE this is a great opportunity to get to know about the organization and meet new people.
New online tutorial
There’s a new tutorial posted on the CACE website: “Media Relations 101: Competence. Comfort. Consistency.” Presented by Debbie Buott-Matheson a CACE member from Nova Scotia, you will learn about effective communications policy, the media landscape, tools of the trade and much more. This video tutorial is one of several we’ve been adding to the website over the past year. If you have a topic you’d like to share please get in touch and we’d love to offer this opportunity for you to share your knowledge and expertise with colleagues across the country.
In closing …
We are looking forward to seeing you in Ottawa in a few days. If you are not able to be at the conference, watch and engage with #cacecon2016 on our twitter feed and on our Facebook page throughout the day.
Catherine Shedden,
CACE President
