I was privileged to be invited to an online Forum of some Yoruba traditional rulers in Nigeria, who are committed to promoting the rich linguistic, artistic and cultural heritage of their people. With the widespread adoption of the Internet, what better way to reach their subjects and the world at large? Simply put, Technology meets Tradition and Tradition has gone ahead to embrace Technology. They are beginning to assemble their content, and a silent revolution is brewing!

Adoption of IPv6, Impact of IPv6 on Domain Name Industry, Focus of IPv6 and transition
Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6), the new version of the Internet address protocol was developed to supplement (and eventually replace) IPv4, the version that underpins the Internet today.  This was because nearly all the 4.3 billion IPv4 addresses are already assigned globally as against the 340 trillion unique IPv6 addresses.
 
Every computer, mobile phone and device connected on the Internet needs an IP Address in order to communicate with other devices. The Internet Community is coming to terms with the fact that IPv4 can no longer serve it effectively, considering the rapid growth of Internet users in the world. There is no doubt that the adoption and impact of IPv6 will greatly enhance the availability of domain names. IPv6 is designed to co-exist with IPv4 and support Internet services and applications.

ICANN58 NextGen@ICANN Application Round
ICANN has launched the application round for those interested in participating at the ICANN58 meeting through the NextGen Program. The first ICANN meeting of 2017 would hold 11th to 16th March 2017 in Denmark. This round remains open until 4th November 2016 & successful candidates will be announced on the ICANN website by the 2nd of December 2016. For more information, click on
 
2016 GULF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY EXHIBITION (GITEX)
The 36th edition of the Gulf Information Technology Exhibition (GITEX) technology week held at the World trade Centre, Dubai from 16th to 20th October, 2016. This was Nigeria’s fourth time of participating at GITEX. The program was aimed at promoting investments in Technology through the African Investment Forum and showcasing Nigerian Startups and Nigerian Organizations at Nigeria’s Pavilion. NiRA attended the Exhibition. Many organizations and startups flaunting their .ng domain names via their email addresses and websites. The NiRA delegation guided participants on how to register their .ng domain names and the benefits of having .ng domain names.
