2016 FRAXSOCAL updates

Looking back on some awesome FRAXSOCAL events this year we realized that it's all because of YOU!

We hosted our 4th Annual 5K for Fragile X on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at Bonelli Park, CA in celebration of California Fragile X Awareness Day! We had over 120 in attendance for this Family Fun Day/ Fundraiser and raised a little over $3,000 in the name of Fragile X! Our participants ranged from our Fragile X community, new families with Fragile X, family, friends, Los Angeles County Sheriff Department, and avid 5K runners! It was an amazing day with amazing people and we were able to spread Fragile X Awareness. We are so excited to have a date for our 5th annual 5K which will be on April 22, 2017 at the same location, Bonelli Park! We hope you all can make it!

It was our pleasure to host a one day conference, X-pert Advice: Educational & Daily Living Strategies for Fragile X on May 20, 2016 in Carson, CA.  Tracy Murnan Stackhouse, MA, OTR & Sarah (Mouse) Scharfenaker, MA, CCC-SLP (Co-Founders Developmental FX Denver, Colorado) were the X-pert presenters. We had an equal number of parents and professionals attend the event with 42 attendees total.  Long Beach Memorial and Miller's Children's Hospital/Stramski Center sent their entire staff  from the Fragile X Clinic and helped us with the planning of the event. Dr. Gary Feldman, the medical director of the FX Clinic, made the opening remarks and joined Tracy and Mouse for Q and A after the presentation.  We had several new families attend who were thrilled to get the opportunity to hear from two of the best experts in the field.  We had social workers, educators, behavioral therapists, nurses and one doctor among the professionals attending.  Attendees also had time at lunch to share ideas and stories of their own experiences.

On October 1, 2016 we had a Family Fun Day at Cal State Fullerton's Titan Bowl & Billiards. It was such a great day where our FX family, new and old, gathered together for a day of fun. Families were able to share their stories with each other, get new ideas and support each other on this FX journey we are on. We look forward to many more of these events so stay tuned!
