Raise Your Voice for Opera Advocacy Day

November 1, 2016

Dear Friend,

Today is Opera Advocacy Day, an opportunity for opera advocates to urge Congress to support policies and legislation that impact opera companies, artists and the communities they serve.

Each day, OPERA America represents the field on a wide range of issues, including support for the National Endowment for the Arts, preserving the full scope and value of the charitable deduction, and efficient visa processing for foreign guest artists, among others.

Since last year’s Opera Advocacy Day, the arts community has seen a host of successes:
  • The IRA charitable rollover was reinstated and made permanent;
  • The Every Student Succeeds Act was signed into law, and it includes numerous opportunities that support arts education in schools; and
  • The National Endowment for the Arts received a $2 million increase, the first increase in five years.
