Hello

It's impossible to do everything yourself...

When you run a small business, it’s almost impossible to do everything yourself.  From a business point of view, it also doesn’t make much sense to be all things to all men.  This month, we talked to the owner of Extreme Joinery Concepts, Craig Fergus, about how Cutshop has helped to improve his business by delivering capacity without the capital input.

Established in 2004, Extreme Joinery Concepts designs and manufactures high-quality kitchens. After going on a tour of Cutshop Mt Wellington factory three years ago, Craig was impressed by the high-end capability of our edge banding and CNC machines and decided to give us a try (that was the start of a great business relationship).

Craig now enjoys dealing with his local Cutshop on the North Shore branch and specifies the components for his kitchens by using our simple, yet dynamic, software which he has downloaded on his own laptop. What Craig likes most about the software is that he's able to input specifications himself which enables him to get exactly what he wants. "It has a library of different types of cabinets. So, for example, if you want a base cabinet with one drawer you have a range of options to choose from.”

If you're interested in getting the capacity to handle more work without massive overheads, please get in touch.

Touch of nature

A couple of months ago we talked to Martin, whose first experience with Cutshop was as a DIY'er.  He custom designed and produced a stunning timber kitchen bench for his own kitchen.

However, there's more to Martin's story... his experience lead to the start of a new business opportunity and so began Timbertops - a high-quality wooden benchtop company that sources beautiful timber from around the world and crafts it into solid hardwood counter tops or other timber creations for the home, shop, cafe or workplace.

Although Timbertops has its own workshop for custom jobs, Martin says it is uneconomical to cut benchtops themselves.

“We just can’t do it for anywhere near the low price Cutshop charges — we don’t have a CNC machine, so the process is labour-intensive and takes too much time."

A New Zealand map for Shine TV...

At Cutshop, there’s not much we can’t make. Basically, if you can draw it, we can cut it. Recently, we received an unusual request. Shine TV needed money to broadcast nationwide. So, they planned a five-day event called Shineathon 2016.

As you’d expect, the event was to be broadcast on television. So, to make things interesting, the people at Shine TV wanted a New Zealand map to show viewers their progress.

Here’s how it worked: Each time enough money had been raised to reach 250 homes, an orange ping pong ball would be placed onto the map.

“We approached Cutshop with the idea of a map, and they took it from there. It turned out far beyond our expectations. We thought it would be just a plain, painted map. What we got was a map complete with realistic topography. It looked great on TV” — Matt West, Rhema Media.

Shine TV hoped to raise $500,000; they achieved $647,000, so the fundraiser was a fabulous success!

Speaking about custom DIY...

Check out this stunning 'floating' cabinet, designed and cut by Dave of Cutshop North Shore out of MDF and wood panelling to match the home's walls. The push-to-open door was a great functional design feature to hide the electronics.
Even James and Adele are happy

Cutshop North Shore celebrates

It's been an amazing year...

It's been one year since Cutshop North Shore opened it's showroom and factory doors to service the cabinetmakers and DIY enthusiasts north of the harbour bridge.

Says Dave and Debbie, "it's been an amazing year where we've been rewarded in so many ways. We have obviously learnt so much but most rewarding has been the people we have met and the relationships we have forged with both our customers and suppliers. The successes we have enjoyed over the last 12 months are all down to the amazing team we have at Cutshop North Shore. Our heartfelt thanks go to Andre, Nap and Jamie, without whom we could never have achieved what we have. We are excited about the year ahead and the variety of projects that lie ahead”

Come and see us at 12C John Glenn Ave in Albany - we'd love to show you around our factory.
