Talking Tech

What's on our minds this month

Strategizing your year-end finances

As we head into the final months of the fourth quarter, now’s the time to start organizing your finances so you can make the most out of 2016. Reach out to your accountant or financial strategist in the upcoming weeks to start looking at year-end projections, potential tax-deductible contributions, employee benefits, and more. We’ve put together a list of key items that you should be reviewing.

Get out the vote!

No matter where you stand on the political spectrum, this coming election promises to be a historic one. Encourage your colleagues to vote on Nov. 8, especially the younger ones. Millennials could dictate this election, but only if turnout is high!

$30,000 in grants from Futureworks NYC

Are you in a manufacturing startup or developing advanced manufacturing tech here in New York City? You could receive up to $30k in funding from NYCEDC’s Futureworks Growth Initiative. Applications are due by Monday, Nov. 14.

Zelle App

The future Venmo killer?

America’s big banks are finally getting closer to having a P2P mobile payment system to rival Venmo. Dubbed Zelle, this new app will debut in 2017 and will allow customers of the country’s five biggest banks (and many others) to easily send each other funds. It’s not certain if you can annotate your payments using emojis, but this could make freelance and contractor payments for businesses a whole lot easier.
Small Business Saturday

Go big on Small Business Saturday

Nov. 26 is Amex’s annual Small Business Saturday, and it’s time now to start planning promotions. Amex has custom downloadable marketing materials available for your social networks, website, and storefront, as well as “Shop Small” tote bags, stickers, balloons and more. Simply head over to their website, input your company and email, and get your free marketing kit on the spot.

Adding it all up...

"The law of harvest is to reap more than you sow. Sow an act, and you reap a habit. Sow a habit and you reap a character. Sow a character and you reap a destiny."
            —James Allen

The fall harvest has traditionally been a time of the year to reflect on the accomplishments of the year—was it fruitful or fruitless? Bountiful or barren? And so in business we must do the same. Now is the time to start reviewing how the year went, not only so you can finish out the year strong, but also so you can prepare for the coming year as well.
