Board Chair, Susan Muralt, looks on as Betty Robinson accepts the 2016 Distinguished Service Award from Foundation for Community Health at the Foundation's annual meeting October 24.

FCH Honors Betty Robinson and Elects Board Leadership

Our Foundation for Community Health held its annual meeting on Monday, October 24, 2016. The annual meeting provided an opportunity to meet with the Board of Trustees and staff to learn how our donors and volunteers brought life to our mission of advancing healthy lives in western Montana in our Fiscal Year ending June 30, 2016.

Board Chair, Susan Muralt, and Executive Director, Dorcie Dvarishkis, welcomed guests and provided an overview of the Foundation's initiatives and development activities. The Foundation Board of Trustees and staff thanked outgoing Trustee, Steve Wilder of Horizon Credit Union, for his service to the organization and unanimously welcomed new Board Trustee, Alita Billington, also of Horizon Credit Union. The Board of Trustees also voted to approve Trustees Tom McLaughlin, Larry Gianchetta and Susan Muralt, for a second Trustee term, and Mike Combo for a second term as Treasurer and Secretary. The Foundation's long-time partner, donor and dear friend, Betty Robinson, was presented with the 2016 Distinguished Service Award for her dedication and service to melanoma and skin cancer prevention education. Betty is the mother of Steven Robinson, who passed away from melanoma at the age of 35, and has been a key partner in our Be Sun Smart initiative supported by the Foundation-held Steven Robinson Memorial Endowment. Congratulations to Betty and our Foundation leadership!

The evening concluded with a short question and answer session, and promotion of the Community Cup Hockey Benefit taking place November 25-27 at Glacier Ice Rink. If you have any questions about the Foundation's initiatives, volunteer opportunities or ways you can give, please contact the Foundation at 406.926.2522 or foundation@fchwmt.org, or visit our website.

Community Cup Hockey Benefit, November 25-27, 2016
The Foundation is pleased to once again partner with Dr. Tim and Tonda Richards and Glacier Ice Rink for the Community Cup Hockey Benefit. The Thanksgiving weekend (November 25-27) tournament generates great support and energy, with teams playing by the unique Ty Robinson Rules, and a Chuck-a-Puck contest open to the public. Players tell us it is their favorite tournament of the year! This year, tournament sponsorships and proceeds will benefit healthcare scholarships and professional development through the Foundation’s new Ty Robinson Family Endowment and the Glacier Ice Rink bleacher project. The event will also include a pediatric patient toy drive.

The Foundation is currently seeking $1,000 or $500 sponsorships for our 2016 Community Cup Hockey Benefit. Please contact the Foundation office before November 10 at 406.926.2522 or foundation@fchwmt.org for a sponsorship form, or with questions. Sponsorship gifts can also be made online at fchwmt.org/donate-now by selecting "Event Sponsor" from the donation designation list. We will see you at the Community Cup!

Safe Kids Spotlight: American Red Cross of Montana
Each month, we feature one of our Coalition partners and share information about the important work they do to make safety a community priority in western Montana. This month, our Safe Kids Spotlight is on American Red Cross of Montana.

The American Red Cross of Montana prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies. American Red Cross of Montana’s prevention activities include partnering with local fire departments to install smoke alarms in homes. Each person may have just two minutes to escape during a home fire, and yet, many homes have alarms that are broken, old or not working properly. It is important to test your smoke alarms regularly and practice your fire escape plan with everyone in your home. Having a working smoke alarm and an escape plan can help save your life or a loved one’s life.
