ACADEMICS
PARENT CONFERENCES 
Monday, November 21 and Tuesday, November 22

COMPLETE THE ONLINE REGISTRATION NO LATER THAN WED., NOV. 2
Conferences are a great way to get a broad sense of how your child is doing each school day in classes and in the LTS environment. You will have a group meeting with your child's teachers so that trends in classroom and extracurricular behaviors can be discussed.
Conferences are required for all new students and are highly encouraged for returning students.

MATHCOUNTS TEAM
Students in grades 6-8, join this year's Mathcounts team! Mathcounts is a nationwide middle school math competition program. The team meets one day a week after school. Our February competition is at Castleton University. Students will learn cool math tricks and explore topics beyond current curriculum.  The first practice is Wed., Nov. 2.  Contact Michele Farkas

HALLOWEEN DANCE
Friday, October 28

Grades 6-12 are invited to the Halloween Dance tomorrow from 7:00-10:00 pm.  Admission is $5 without costume and $3 with costume.

RUTLAND HALLOWEEN PARADE
Saturday, October 29

In Rutland's Halloween Parade, Long Trail has a float promoting the fall musical Phantom of the Opera. Congratulations to our Pumpkin Princess Lindy Burch-Durkee who will lead Long Trail's float featuring the IB Band and friends.  The parade begins at 6:30 pm.  Candy donations welcome. Join us in the parade or come out and cheer us on!

JISP

Registration is open for this year's JISP (Junior Instructional Ski Program) season, run through the Bromley Outing Club at Bromley Mountain. Open to grades 6-8, JISP offers ski and snowboarding instruction from trained volunteers for a nominal fee. For registration forms or to register online, click hereA late fee of $50 applies if you sign up after Nov. 1; program registration closes on Nov. 27. 
 
We also need parent drivers for JISP at Bromley.  Drivers receive discounted passes.
Bromley is looking for high school students to be JISP instructors. Instructors receive free passes. Please contact LTS JISP coordinator
 Katrina Tyler if interested.


REFUSE TO USE
Event #3 will be held on Thurs., Nov. 10 from 3:15-4:45 pm in the Kiva. This meeting is mandatory for Refuse to Use participants but anyone is welcome to join us! Contact Louise Misasi with any questions.

DOLLAR SKATE
Sunday, November 13

Riley Rink at Hunter Park invites the community to a “Kids Dollar Skate” to benefit Long Trail School on Sun., Nov. 13 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. Admission is $1.00 for children 13 and under and $3.00 for 14 and up, skate rentals not included. Enjoy an afternoon of skating and a bake sale while supporting Long Trail School's 8th grade class trip to Montreal. This event is generously donated by The Perfect Wife restaurant and Spiral Press Café. For further information, contact

COLLEGE GUIDANCE
TESTING
  • The Dec. 3 SAT has a registration deadline of Nov. 3. 
  • The Dec. 10 ACT has a registration deadline of Nov. 4.
  • These are the last tests of 2016.  There is a January SAT.
FINANCIAL AID
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid, known as the FAFSA, is available. It will use the 2015 tax year and a data retrieval tool to pull information directly from the IRS. These changes will hopefully make the financial aid process easier.
Please check with your prospective colleges on their deadlines.


COLLEGE APPLICATIONS
The University of Vermont is offering a fee waiver for any Vermonter who applies Early Action by November 1. Decisions will be released in late November.


Seniors need to submit their resumes to Scott Magrath.

ATHLETICS
This was a big week for LTS fall sports as we hosted varsity playoff games on Tuesday and Wednesday and the boys quarterfinals on Friday.
  • Boys: 3 pm quarter-final @ LTS vs. Sharon Academy on Fri., Oct. 28
  • Girls: 1 pm quarterfinal @ Craftsbury on Sat., Oct. 29
Please come out and support the kids!  These are the highest ranks either of our teams have earned and we hope for their continued success in the tournament.

There will be no November LTPA Meeting.  The next meeting is Mon., Jan. 9 at 12:45 pm.

SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT TO GIVE BLOOD
DORSET BLOOD DRIVE
We need more donors! From 12 to 5 pm on Fri., Nov. 11, the American Red Cross will be taking blood donations at Long Trail School.  
Pre-registration is critical so that ARC sends a sufficient staff to assist donations in a timely fashion. While walk-in donors may be accepted, sign-up is preferable; for an appointment, click the red button above or call 1-800-RED CROSS.
