ANNOUNCEMENTS!!!!
#1
At our Paper Arts Club meeting last Wednesday, I made the announcement that after 20 years, I am retiring from running club.  The November 30th holiday meeting will be our last hurrah so I hope you can join us if you haven't been at a meeting in awhile.  I'll still write the weekly e-newsletters, blog and write occasional tutorials.  I may even add a watercolor tab to my blog!  I always believe that when one door closes, another one opens and I look forward to whatever is ahead!

#2  Last Thursday morning, the owner of A Muse Studio announced she was closing the company.  Customers and consultants can place orders up to November 27th.  Needless to say, it's been a fun ride for me and I will especially miss all my A Muse consultants and friends I have made over the past 3 years.

PAPER ARTS CLUB

Holiday Meeting!
November 30, 2016

Our holiday meeting has 3 unique components:

Swap:  Make 15 Gift Card Holders
We talked about whether to make tags or something else and we decided to make Gift Card Holders instead!

Bring a handcrafted gift bag:   Fill the bag (store bought or made from scratch.  It doesn't have to be a bag!  It could be a tin, a cool box, something re-puposed, etc.)  Place a minimum $5 worth of paper crafting supplies inside that you yourself would like to own!  Split up packages of new items, cut up cool papers, ribbon, new/gently used stamps, etc.  Show us how creative you are!!!!

Bring a food munchy or dessert.  This is optional and we always have a generous turnout of food!  The Library just asks that we don't bring any hot food in crock pots, etc.

No Everson and No SOTM

GIFT CARD HOLDER IDEA #1
Kristina Werner has a totally fun gift card holder using wrapping paper!  LOVE THIS!!!!  Thanks Jane Henderson for giving me the heads up!
So OF COURSE I had to make a gift card holder!  I wanted to use double sided pattern paper rather than wrapping paper as I thought it looked difficult to work with.  After a few attempts, here's my result:
I used Authentique paper from a couple of Valentine years ago 'cuz they are terrific colors for the holidays and hearts work all year long.  I thought the cardstock would be too bulky but it worked beautifully.  I did go over my folds with a bone folder.  Be careful with some cardstock as the edges will crack and in that case, just use your fingers to fold all edges.
If you make this project, accuracy in folding is key as well as starting the folding process along the 9-7/8" edge!!!  I'm not sure Kristina emphasized that fact in her video.
As I was finishing the holder, I also thought that a belly band would be adorbs for this project also.  Stay tuned next week for another sample!
When it comes time to tuck the top flap into the bottom section, I found one flap fit better, so if it doesn't quite fit, try tucking the other flap.  My hearts were upside down when I took the photo!  Notice how I kept the ribbon tied and simply slid it off.
Here's the view from the outside fold.  Notice the fold has open edges that I could have gotten a bit closer together while folding.  When I first folded this project, I thought I did something wrong, but it will look that way when you are finished.  This is so stinkin' cute, right?
Wonder what we made at Club last Wednesday?  Here you go!
Sizzix birch tree die, Penny Black bird on branches and flock of birds, A Muse moon, sentiment, pearls, papers.
A Muse poinsettia, sentiment and sequins.  Faber Castell Aquaelle watercolor pencils were used to color poinsettia and background.  Peerless gold paint splattered on tag on right.

WATERCOLOR PROJECT:

Jane and some other friends went on a unique paint night hosted by The Thirsty Painters where they painted pumpkins onto barn board!  My sister and I were on vacation and couldn't go but I've been wanting to paint a pumpkin ever since!  Another piece I didn't sketch first or scribble over with black pen!!!  Believe me, I was tempted!!!
Have a safe Halloween!  Don't eat too much candy (guilty)!

xoxo
