Message from the Principal

Welcome to Week 3.
Have you noticed out new Coolbinia Primary School sign on Bradford street and the beautiful butterfly signs in our gardens?  A huge thankyou to Dr Lewis for the organisation and work in enhancing our grounds with this wonderful initiative. You will observe the signs are the children’s paintings and are located close to the fauna where each particular butterfly lives.  I hope you have a chance to take a look soon.

Nature playground not available after school
Now the weather has warmed up and students bound from classes at the end of the day full of energy there seems to be a number of students who make their way to the nature playground.  Students are not permitted to play on the equipment after school other than on “Stay and Play” afternoons when the P&C kindly provide supervision alongside parents. Please ensure your children understand the nature playground is out of bounds after school. Thank you.

Class Placement 2017
Parents are invited to put in writing any concerns they may have regarding class placements for their child in 2017.  Please ensure your written comments are in an envelope marked confidential and addressed to me. No emails please. Letters should be dropped into Administration and need to be submitted by November 4. I would like to draw you attention to the guidelines on the website about class placement requests. Letters submitted which do not meet these requirements will not be considered.

Spoooooky Disco and Moooovie
This Friday Night!

Please support the P&C and join in the spooky fun this Friday night.
The P&C is proud to present a spooky night at Coooooolbinia with two fantastic events.

For Kindy to Year 2 there is a spooky disco from 5.30 – 7.00pm with great music, dancing, games, glow in the dark things, snacks and treats.  **Please note parents & guardians - you are required to stay and supervise your child at the Spooky Disco.

Due to popular demand the Year 3 – 6 students will be enjoying a spooky movie on Friday night from 7.30pm (don’t worry it won’t be too scary and is definitely rated PG!) Hotel Transylvania 2.  Please ask the children to bring a comfy cushion or pillow to lounge on for the movie! Adults please note it is a requirement for duty of care that you drop off your children and are there for pick up at 9.00pm. Children will not be permitted to leave without an adult.

Tickets are $8 and are on sale now in both ELC and upper school. Look out for ELC 3, Room 10 & Room 12 for tickets!
See you there! Boo!

P&C Contact List

Your chance to be in the know.

As you already know, the P&C are very busy throughout the year organising events, fundraisers, get-togethers and being all-round very helpful and wonderful people.  They would like to be able to keep the community informed of their activities and the opportunities being created and I would like to support them in that.

To this end, I would ask that if you DO NOT WISH to be on the P&C's email contact list for 2017 that you simply email Annemarie Dembo and include the words "No to P&C email list" in the subject line.  We will then ensure those email contact details are not passed on to the P&C.  The P&C have assured me their communications will never reveal individual email addresses and their list will never be passed on to a third party.  They will only use the list for P&C approved activities and not for promotion of anything other than P&C based programs.  I have asked them to ensure that families always have the option to unsubscribe from the list.  Thank you for your support of this group.

Year 5 Parents Meeting

A date for the diary

Mrs Melville and I would like to invite you to a meeting on Thursday 10 November.  We will be outlining some of the planning already underway for Year 6 students in 2017 and the GATE programs for high school in 2018.  Please join us in the school library at 5.30pm.

Swimming Lessons Continue

Little Fish

Our Pre-Primary to Year 2 students have been in the pool this week and will continue with lessons until next Friday. Please remember to name everything your child brings to school to avoid loss and to slip slop slap before school.

Future Thinkers

Year 6 Coolbinia students - Marianna and Drew - attended the Millennium Kids conference: Future Thinkers, during the last school holidays.  They confidently presented their butterfly presentation and participated in the three-day conference.  Conference feedback indicated they did an outstanding job and represented the school in a truly commendable manner.  Congratulations to our student leaders!

National Water Week at Coolbinia

Last week fabulous water activities were conducted every day during National Water Week.  Lina and Elaine provided creative water-based experiences every lunchtime.  These ranged from ‘drawing’ with huge ice blocks,  rinsing animals in a ‘river’, creating water pictures, testing objects for floating and sinking and using a catchment model.  Water incursions by an Education Officer from the Water Corporation have also been booked.  Students were highly engaged.  Thanks to Lina and Elaine for sharing their lunchtimes to promote water-awareness.

Protective Behaviours Workshop

Wednesday 2 November

A limited number of places are still available for the invaluable parent workshop next month. The presentation looks at child sexual abuse and aims to educate, demystify and provide tools to prevent not only instances of abuse but also arm your children with a host of skills like resilience, problem solving, self-confidence, assertiveness and persistence.   7.00pm - 9.00pm in the School Library.  Please email Chris Jordan to express your interest.

ELC Fundraiser - Tea Towels

Everybody needs them

It’s time for the ELC P&C’s final fundraiser of the year – the Tea Towel Fundraiser!
The unique tea towel design will be made up of individual portraits created by our ELC children and teachers. The children’s pictures and names will be arranged together as a commemorative design (each year group will have their own design), then screen printed in blue onto high quality white tea towels (50x70cm).

These tea towels are a wonderful keepsake and a special gift for parents, relatives and friends. The tea towels look amazing, are so easy to post and make a fabulous reminder of your child’s early years.

Order forms will be sent out tomorrow so order quickly to avoid missing out!
