Legal Obstacles to Economic Development
The Consortium for Development Policy Research is excited to announce the second of its event series, the Lahore Policy Exchange, titled "Legal Obstacles to Economic Development", to be held on 4th November from 2:30-4:00 PM.
Sustainable, inclusive economic development cannot happen without an accommodating system of law, courts and legal protections accessible to citizens. Pakistan faces major challenges on all three accounts, from failures in the courts to managing cases, to the law being used as instrument to protect vested interests.
At this week's event, two important topics that fall under this theme will be addressed by our speakers, Feisal Naqvi and Salman Akram Raja.
Feisal Naqvi, a lawyer and columnist, will discuss why courts are overwhelmed with cases involving land disputes, preventing their ability to hear more important cases.
Salman Akram Raja, an advocate of the Supreme Court, will discuss whether fundamental rights to property and business enterprise have empowered marginalized groups or entrenched the interests of privilege
To attend, please RSVP to admin@cdpr.org.pk by Wednesday, 2nd November. Limited seats are available!
