Dr Jessie Ricketts recently presented at the Houses of Parliament on ‘Measuring literacy in secondary school.'
Learning new vocabulary is a lifelong endeavour, and vocabulary knowledge is critical for educational attainment. Once children have acquired foundational reading skills, reading provides them with opportunities to learn new words.
Jessie is currently a lecturer in the Department of Psychology, Royal Holloway, University of London. Her research interests include language and literacy in children with and without speech, language and communication needs, including children with specific reading comprehension difficulties (poor comprehenders), dyslexia, specific language impairment and autism spectrum disorders.
