Eithne Heffernan, Emilia Colagrosso, SAC student associate Divine Bou-Chebl, SAC student associate Emily Gula and SAC student associate Kevin Daoust at the WCA Young Professionals Reception.

SAC was delighted to co-host the 33rd World Congress of Audiology and welcome audiologists from Canada and around the world to Vancouver. With over 1,200 delegates from over 40 countries, WCA2016 was truly a global event.

At this international congress, SAC provided two unique networking opportunities for students: the Student-Mentor Networking Lunch, co-chaired by SAC Board Director Li Qi, PhD, RAUD, Aud(C) and Susan Small, PhD, offered audiology students the opportunity to meet leaders in the profession and the New Professionals Reception hosted by SAC and the Canadian Academy of Audiology gave young professionals from around the world the chance to meet and make new connections. At the reception, Jerri-Lee MacKay, M.Sc., Aud(C), SAC Chair, Joanne Charlebois, SAC CEO, Chantal Kealey, AuD, Aud(C), SAC Director of Audiology and Communication Health Assistants, Michael Vekasi, Aud(C) and Anna Van Maanen, Aud(C) were pleased to chat with students and meet the next generation of audiologists.

Your Profession Around the World
In 2014, SAC joined together with five other speech-language pathology and audiology organizations from around the world to found the International Communication Project (ICP). SAC is very proud to be part of this global initiative. We thought you, as student associates, might be interested in learning more not just about ICP, but also about your profession in each of the founding organizations' countries. Last issue, we took a look at the United Kingdom and Australia. Below you will find information about New Zealand and the United States. Stay tuned for the spring issue of Student Speak to learn about speech-language pathology and audiology in Ireland!

In case you'd like to compare, here are a couple relevant statistics for Canada:
  • SAC has over 6,300 members and associates
  • There are 11 universities offering speech-language pathology programs, five universities offering audiology programs and about nine schools offering communication health assistant programs in Canada
