Rescuing nature's bounty for the benefit of our community

One Million Pounds!

It’s a milestone when a business reaches its first million, but what about when you GLEAN your millionth pound? We call that revolutionary! GleanSLO is beyond happy to say that we have successfully gleaned our millionth pound since our inception in 2010! None of this would have been possible without our incredible team of volunteers who have donated dozens of thousands of hours. More than 2,000 community members participated in this important work and continue to rescue produce that would have otherwise gone to waste. Nearly 400 farmers and home gardeners have donated their produce to feed more than 46,000 neighbors in San Luis Obispo County. Each piece of produce was picked with love by our community, for our community. Many hands make light work!

Welcome Dylan, GleanSLO AmeriCorps Fellow!
Dylan is our new volunteer coordinator! He is in charge of building and maintaining our volunteer infrastructure.

"My favorite part about GleanSLO is the backyard harvests. Homeowners love knowing that their yard’s bounty is distributed locally to those in need. It’s always impressive doing the large gleans and seeing the massive amounts of produce brought in. The largest glean I’ve been a part of was 4,300 pounds of apples! Whether large or small, our gleans provide nutritious produce to our food insecure residents and serve as community building moments. I love to be a part of this process."

Johnny AppleGlean
We anticipate gleaning apples into November which means, you still have time to soak up the autumn weather with us in See Canyon. We have gleaned over 30,000 pounds of apples with many more to go.  Please check out our harvest calendar for future gleans. We can’t wait to see you there!
