Administrative Message

Hello Barons!

Welcome to the month of November.   It is hard to believe that we are already halfway through the first semester!  I would like to thank those parents who made it to Student Led Parent Teacher conferences on October 18th and 20th.  It was great to see you and have discussions about your child's progress at LCHS.   This month leads us to another important reporting period as report cards will be distributed to students on November 23.  Please expect them home that day and if you have any questions, please phone the school.

November also brings our annual LCHS Remembrance Day service on November 4th at 9:50 in the gym.  Mr. McFarlane and our organizing committee do a fantastic job with the service and would love to have you join us for the hour.

On the extracurricular front, our Football and Volleyball seasons will wrap up this month, allowing students the opportunity to join our Basketball and Curling teams at LCHS.  Go Barons! For a complete list of events happening this month, please see our events page in this newsletter.

As always, if you ever have any questions regarding student progress or anything else, please don't hesitate to contact the teachers or staff at LCHS.

Have a great month!

News from the LCHS Music Department

Garage Band- Congratulations to the Block 6 and 7 Garage Band 10 classes for their excellent performance on October 13.  The Barons Court Theatre was filled to capacity and students really enjoyed the experience.  Students will be performing their Acoustic Unit songs on Friday, November 4th for select LCHS classes.
On October 24th, the band Double Experience from Ontario delivered a presentation about the music industry and an acoustic performance to students.  The students really enjoyed hearing from the band members about the music industry and what it’s like to have a music career.
The next event for students will be on November 2nd, when we travel to Edmonton with the Drama classes to see the play “Million Dollar Quartet” at the Citadel Theatre.

Band 10- Congratulations to Grade 10 Band Student Neil Scott who performed in the Alberta Honour Band on October 21 in Banff.  Neil represented LCHS and Lloydminster well and enjoyed the awesome experience.

Band 20/30- Students have been preparing for two Remembrance Day performances in November.  On November 4, students will perform at the LCHS Service and collaborate with Mrs. Close’s ELA A30 class to perform the piece “Letters for Home” by Saskatchewan composer Pete Meechan.  Students will also be performing at the Lloydminster Remembrance Day Service on November 11 at 11 am in the LCHS gymnasium.
Stay tuned for an exciting Christmas event organized by the Band 20/30 students to help raise money for their upcoming spring trip.

Jazz Studies 10/20/30- Congratulations to LCHS students James Griffith and Josh Sandercock for participating in the U of S High School Select Jazz Weekend on October 28-30 in Saskatoon.  The students had an intensive weekend filled with rehearsals and concluded with a final performance on October 30.

Thanks to all those who came out to support the club! Our next show will be a Theatresports show on Thursday, December 15th. Come out and watch as the improvisers battle it out for improv supremacy!

The hit Tony Award Winning Broadway “Jukebox Musical” celebrates the life and times of Ellie Greenwich, whose doo wop sounds skyrocketed to the top of the sixties charts.
