Youth Opportunity Scholarships Are Now Available For Bancroft and John Muir Middle School Students
Want to learn how to play a musical instrument? How about a cooking class? Maybe learn ceramics or painting? What about taking a writing class? The San Leandro Education Foundation is excited to partner with the Youth Opportunity Scholarship program, supported by a San Francisco-based family foundation that is interested in giving San Leandro youth opportunities to develop and follow their passions. Detailed information regarding this program can be found at sledfund.org. Applications are NOW AVAILABLE from the Parent Facilitators at each middle school. Hurry! The deadline to turn in your application to your school site is Friday, November 18, 2016! Don't miss out on this great opportunity to learn something new!
Community Volunteers Wanted!
Are you a community member who wants to share your work experience with our students? Teachers in San Leandro Unified are incorporating Project Based Learning (PBL) in their classrooms as a way to involve and energize their students. Face it, school can get boring if students aren't engaged. PBL helps students gain knowledge and experience by working together on a specific project, idea or task over an extended period of time, resulting in a visual product as the end result of their work. This is where volunteers from our community are needed. We will help pair you with a specific class project benefiting both the students and you. This is not a long term commitment, either. Most activities involve a one time classroom visit. Please contact kathy@sledfund.org if you are interested. And teachers--feel free to reach out to Kathy with your classroom needs! We are here for you!
SLHS Dramatic Arts Presents "Almost, Maine"
Mark your calendars now for the upcoming production of "Almost, Maine" presented by the San Leandro High School Dramatic Arts Department.
Welcome to Almost, Maine, a town that’s so far north, it’s almost not in the United States—it’s almost in Canada. And it almost doesn’t exist. Because its residents never got around to getting organized. So it’s just…Almost.
One cold, clear Friday night in the middle of winter, while the northern lights hover in the sky above, Almost’s residents find themselves falling in and out of love in the strangest ways. Knees are bruised. Hearts are broken. Love is lost, found, and confounded. And life for the people of Almost, Maine will never be the same....
The shows will be held over two weekends in November at the schools Arts and Entertainment Theater. Plan now to attend to show your support for the arts in our schools. More information regarding show times and to purchase tickets can be found at www.sanleandropac.com.
