How ATAPS can help your patients

Short-Term Focused Psychological Strategies, also known as Access To Allied Psychological Services (ATAPS), last year delivered services to over 3000 people. EMPHN continues to deliver this program with 140 contracted providers working individually and within community based organisations.

These clinicians have a significant collective skill set and can deliver services to a diverse population of people from various cultural backgrounds with a range of presenting issues. Our clinicians can deliver services in 22 languages other than English.

The referral form and information sheets are available at https://www.emphn.org.au/what-we-do/mental-health/ataps and the provider directory is also on this page.

If you have any questions, please call the intake team on 9800 1071 and a team member will be happy to assist you.

Our Clinical Intake and Community Engagement Service assists GPs, health services, community members and others to understand, navigate and access available mental health services.

The Intake Team includes mental health clinicians who are able to assess clinical risk, triage as required and assist people to identify and access the service that best suits their needs.

Team members also meet with clients and their health professionals in clinics or their homes to help identify suitable services.

The Intake Team also processes referrals for Eastern Melbourne PHN's commissioned mental health services, including:

  • Access to Allied Psychological Services (ATAPS)
  • Mental Health Nurse Incentive Program (MHNIP)
  • Partners in Recovery (PIR) - Inner East and Outer East PIR services only

For more information, visit the Clinical Intake section of the EMPHN website.

Redesigning the Practice Incentives Program

An important consultation process is currently being undertaken by the Australian Government Department of Health – Redesigning the Practice Incentives Program.

The Practice Incentives Program (PIP) is a key driver of quality care in the general practice sector. The redesign of the PIP is an Australian Government initiative to simplify the current PIP and to introduce a new Quality Improvement Incentive. This will give general practices increased flexibility to improve their detection and management of a range of chronic conditions, and to focus on issues specific to their practice population.

The Department of Health is now seeking stakeholder views on how the PIP might foster quality improvement and innovation and offers a number of ways that stakeholders can participate in the consultation.

Opportunities include:

  1. Indicating your interest in participation through a forum or webcast at the Department of Health on-line consultation hub at consultations.health.gov.au
  2. Providing a written submission that comments on specific elements or all elements of the Consultation Paper – Redesigning the Practice Incentives Program
  1. Responding to the anonymous questionnaire that will be available at consultations.health.gov.au

Promoting My Health Record in practice – Warrandyte Consulting Rooms

Warrandyte Consulting Rooms have been very proactive in promoting the benefits of My Health Record to their patients.

The practice has made their own display in their waiting room which includes the official posters and brochures for My Health Record along with some of their own messages and information about how patients can get a My Health Record.

See some photos of their display below.

Consultation draft – alcohol and other drug program guidelines

The Department of Health and Human Services is publishing Alcohol and Other Drug Program Guidelines as part of the response to the independent review of the recommissioning of adult community based alcohol and other drug services.

In the first instance, this document will consolidate existing advice from the department and describe the purpose, target group and key service requirements of funded services. The guidelines will be subject to ongoing review and consultation processes.

A Consultation Draft of the guidelines is now available and feedback is requested by Friday 25 November 2016. The document is found at https://www2.health.vic.gov.au/alcohol-and-drugs/aod-service-standards-guidelines/aod-program-guidelines.

Think about your lungs this Lung Health Awareness Month

November is Lung Health Awareness Month and Lung Foundation Australia is encouraging all Australians to take their lung health seriously and recognise symptoms early in both themselves, and loved ones. Health professionals can help to spread the word by getting involved.
Encourage your patients to take the Lung Health Checklist at www.lungfoundation.com.au. It only takes a few minutes, and the simple questions will help to recognise symptoms of lung disease and the need to act promptly.

For resources and information visit www.lungfoundation.com.au or phone our free call Information and support centre on 1800 654 301.
