IUIS President's Address

At the 16th International Congress of Immunology in Melbourne, Australia, from August 21 to 26 2016, the new Executive Board and Council of the International Union of Immunological Societies (IUIS) were formed. The Congress was a great success with over 4,000 participants. The next ICI/IUIS will take place in Beijing, China, 2019, and thereafter in Capetown, South Africa, 2022.

Highlights:

At the Council Meeting was agreed that the triennial congress will be organized by IUIS.
Job opportunities: The IUIS is rearching for a Chair of its new Publications Committee. All interested candidates or nominees should be sent to IUIS Secretary General Roslyn Kemp.
The General Assembly voted in favour of the IUIS triennial cogress in 2022 should take place in Cape town, South Africa.
At the Immunology 2016 Awards the winner for Best Theme “Immunotherapy” Campaign: Immunological Society of Serbia, Best International Campaign: Indian Immunology Society, Best European Campaign: Spanish Society of Immunology, and the Most Innovative Campaign: Argentinean Society of Immunology.
IUIS 2019: Mark your calendars! The next International Congress of Immunology will take place April 25-30, 2019 in Beijing, China

Frontiers in Immonology

The Journal of Immunology

Update on Gender Equity in Immunology, 2001 - 2016, J Immunol 2016 Saphiro.
Scientific paper focusing on the representation of women within immunology departments across 27 institutions in the United States comparing it to the percentage of women receiving a Ph.D in order to examine changes in gender equity over the last 15 years.

Robert Koch Awads 2016

IUIS President Professor Alberto Mantovani is being recognized for his pioneering work on the link between inflammation and cancer. This year he has been awarded with the Robert-Koch Prize 2016 for opening up an entirely new field of research on his observations that cells of the innate immune system accumulate around certain cancer foci.
