NEWS FROM THE EPO
I hope your kids enjoyed their first Expedition session of this school year. My son Christopher is a junior and he really liked the College Readiness class, where juniors start planning for college and the Pathways to Education class where he was able to be a teaching assistant at Garfield School to see what it is like to be a teacher. Both were great experiences for him, experiences that he could only get at Everest. Expeditions are definitely one of the many things that I love about our school.
Please come out and show your love of our school this Friday, October 28th at our All School Potluck. All families are welcome! And we need your help. Please see the article below and sign up to help with what you can and please come on coming out and celebrating our wonderful school!
Questions? As always, please contact me at lindamburt@gmail.com.

On October 26th, we will be holding our annual FAFSA/DREAM Application Night from 6-8 PM at Summit Prep. The purpose of this evening will be for all Seniors to start and complete their FAFSA/DREAM applications in order for them to receive the best financial aid package from the college they choose to attend. Financial aid experts and mentors will be on site to help families complete the FAFSA or DREAM applications or to answer questions regarding financial aid. Be sure to bring these items when you attend. This event is required of all Seniors and their families. Can't wait to see you!
College Day/PSAT Testing
Wednesday, November 2nd will be a day devoted to helping Everest meet our mission of preparing all of our students for college and career.
In the morning, our 9th-11th grade students will be taking their PSAT exams. The PSAT is a valuable exam for students because it gives them firsthand practice with high stakes, external exams that are required for college admissions. This test is also valuable because students can use it to qualify for a National Merit Scholarship. The National Merit Scholarship awards high achieving students with scholarships of $2500. We believe both of these opportunities will serve our students well in helping them achieve their own college and career goals.
While the 9th-11th grade students are completing their PSAT exam, our 12th grade students will be engaged in personalized college application workshops with the 12th grade mentor team. We know that November is the most high volume month for completing college applications, and we will take this opportunity to support our students in reaching their desired college destinations. Workshops will range from completing UC/CSU/Common Applications, completing Early Opportunity Program applications, developing and editing personal statements, and submitting FAFSA applications.
The afternoon will give all students the opportunity to speak with Everest alumni and set personal goals for the paths they want to take through college. We know students are their most productive and focused when they are able to connect their long term goals to daily actions, and we will be using College Day on November 2nd to make progress on these goals.
To be most successful on this day, please review the following details:
- There will not be an opportunity to make up PSAT exams. If a student is absent or tardy on this day, they will miss the PSAT test for this year.
- All students taking the PSAT will need to bring a College Board approved calculator, pencils, and reading materials for when they finish a section early.
- Students will not have access to their cell phones or computer during the testing period.
- Seniors who are submitting college applications should bring a form of payment as well as any other information they will need to complete their applications.
