In August, an extremely successful book drive was sponsored by Teresa Hoover, Team Leader and Consultant for Usborne Books & More. Her goal, to share her love of reading and to promote literacy within a worthy organization.  Thanks to the generosity of many supporters, more than 225 books ($1830 value) are available to share with our ALP students.
Now that's sharing the love!

Summer Camp!
Second year ALP tutor and emerging leader MaryAnne Calvino hosted a  Summer Literacy Camp at Mount Calvary Baptist Church where volunteers were trained to staff a "station" that represented a single step in an ALP lesson. Twelve students and their parents went from station to station twice a week for eight weeks learning short vowel hand signals, tapping out sounds, and sight words. Both student AND parents made progress toward literacy this summer!
Bravo MaryAnne!
The Board of Directors welcomes new member Bob Coffey.  Bob recently retired from The Gordian Group, a company he co-founded in 1990 specializing in data software to the construction industry.   His experience in growing a business for over 25 years will be welcomed and vital as Augustine embarks on our many growth initiatives as a newly formed non-profit organization.  Bob is the father of four sons, one of which is dyslexic, so he is keenly aware of the challenges facing a child who needs extra help and the tools to achieve literary success.
Welcome Aboard Bob!
The Board of Directors of ALP Upstate would like to thank Terri Koontz for her many years of service on behalf of the Augustine Literacy Project. Terri served as Treasurer on the Board, managed publicity, hosted socials, and helped grow the organization in countless other ways. Terri's efforts changed the lives of everyone on the Board and many deserving students.
