SmartVox Evades Internet Outage
Distributed Denial of Service Attack is still nasty
In case you didn't know about it, today was a bad day for most of the Internet in the United States. A Distributed Denial of Service (or DDoS) attack was unleashed against a major portion of the Internet that controls how you reach services such as Twitter, Paypal, and just about everything else. You can read about it here, on Wired.
It's bad.
The service affected is called DNS. This is similar to the way a phone book lets you look up a name and get a number. DNS lets you put a name like "smartvox.com" into your web browser and the correct internet IP address (which is a number) will be returned.
Luckily, SmartVox makes use of EverWatch Global's Nagios monitoring platform, and it was discovered it early on. The monitoring platform then automatically activated some backup systems that prevented our services from being affected. Rest assured, while the Internet may be broken, SmartVox continues to provide you with reliable communications services.
If you have any questions about SmartVox, DDoS attacks, DNS, or our service in general, feel free to ask one of our SmartReps by sending email to support@smartvox.com or checking out the myriad ways to contact us at smartvox.com/contact. In the meantime, enjoy some great fall weather!
