Help the Bomba & Plena Students Go To Puerto Rico!

The Bay Area Bomba & Plena Youth Workshop needs your help to get to Puerto Rico! The children (ages 7-16) of the workshop and Quenepas Youth Ensemble are traveling to deepen their knowledge of the music and dance of Bomba and Plena by masters of both genres from across the island. While in Puerto Rico, we will be connecting and collaborating with Arawak Opia, a Chicago-based Youth Bomba group also on an educational tour.

Funds raised will go toward transportation, hotel and workshop costs associated with the trip. In addition we are raising funds to continue to run our workshop and provide low cost training in Berkeley by maestros Shefali Shah and Hector Lugo.  Together, they started the Bay Area Bomba & Plena workshop over 16 years ago and have taught children for 9 years.

Please help us provide this one-of-a-kind opportunity to Bay Area Puerto Rican diasporic children studying the music of their roots!

Donate today and please tell your friends!
