Dear Global Philadelphians:
As Fall becomes Winter I wanted to update you on the recent trip taken in conjunction with our World Heritage partners in Europe and the Commerce Department's trip to Germany.
I was first in Padua, Italy to accept an award on behalf of the PHLCVB for Philadelphia the World Heritage City. This was followed by a three day conference in Stralsund on the Baltic sea in Germany. A World Heritage City since 2002, this charming town has seen its room nights double and its property values also. Finally I was happy to accompany Philadelphia's Commerce Director Harold Epps to Lisbon, Portugal for meetings with the Luso American Foundation - FLAD and senior civic and business leadership in Sintra. The trip was a success, Philadelphia was well showcased and there was much commercial and cultural interest in our city. The journey reflected a microcosm of the opportunities available to Philadelphia through our Word Heritage networks.
Back at home, the Global Philadelphia Association continues its collaborative mission to promote Philadelphia as a global city through the work of our members.
|
In this endeavor, we are preparing for the Annual Ideas Summit and Globy Awards to be held on December 12th at the Visitors Center on 6th and Market.
Please join us for this wonderful celebration of our members and an opportunity to meet dozens of globally active citizens of Philadelphia. The meeting serves as a preamble to Global Philly 2017. Our 45 day expo held in the Fall of 2017 when each or our members is given the opportunity to showcase an event. In 2015 we attracted over 100,000 folks to the Expo and look forward to growing the reach next Fall. Ask us how you can take part.
Finally and in the spirit of collaboration, we have identified a need in the region for greater access reaching different international communities. To this end we are putting together a "List of Lists" on the Global Philadelphia web site with contact information for any globally oriented list available in the region. Please share your lists with us and tell us how you would like to engage in this portal. We are delighted to provide this service to better serve the global audiences in our area.
As always we are here to serve you the international players in our region.
Check out our web site and Facebook page to keep abreast of whats going on globally in Philadelphia,
Best Wishes

Organization of World Heritage Cities – Regional Secretariat Conference, Stralsund, Germany
Philadelphia once again enhanced its international ties by participating in its regional conference for the Organization of World Heritage Cities (OWHC). OWHC is a network of cities worldwide, each being home to at least one UNESCO World Heritage Site, with a desire to cooperate and inspire each other in world heritage and cultural management. Delegates from cities in the regional secretariat of Northern Europe and North America recently gathered in the German city of Stralsund to connect and exchange. Philadelphia, approaching our first year anniversary of membership in the OWHC and as the only member from the United States, was proudly represented by Zabeth Teelucksingh (Executive Director, Global Philadelphia Association), Sylvie Gallier-Howard (Chief of Staff, Department of Commerce, City of Philadelphia), and Monica Genuardi (Master’s student in World Heritage Studies). From September 27 through September 29, our Philadelphia representatives in this regional group were introduced to colleagues, reconnected with old friends, learned from other city leaders, and shared what we have been working on back home in Philadelphia with our own designation

CCAP Supports Mayor's Unity Cup Soccer Tournament
|
|
During the spring of 2016, Mayor Jim Kenney announced the inaugural Philadelphia International Unity Cup (www.unitycup.phila.gov), a citywide soccer tournament that will use the universal language of sport to showcase Philadelphia’s rich cultural diversity and to unite its participants: “I am excited to host an event that both highlights our city’s diversity and also helps to bring Philadelphians together”.
Modeled after the FIFA World Cup, 32 teams representing different nations will play 63 games on fields throughout the city, starting on September 9 and culminating with a championship final on November 5 at Citizens Bank Park.
|
The tournament is a cooperative effort among several municipal departments, including the Office of Immigrant Affairs and the Department of Parks and Recreation.
Given the international spirit of this program, CCAP has provided financial support to fund national flags of our Member countries to be flown at Citizens Bank Park during the Parade of Nations which will precede the championship game. Germany, Guatemala, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Mexico, Poland and South Korea are CCAP Member countries with teams in the tournament.
Sincerely
Peter Longstreth
President
