Hi Moms and Dads

This newsletter is a very important form of communication. If you do not receive one via email, please let Jane have your email so that we can send you one and if you would prefer a hard copy in your child’s pocket, please let Jane know so that we can do this for you!
Thanks to all the Rainbow moms and dads for the delicious eats they prepared for the Cake Sale last week. Very yummy indeed!!
We are all excited for our Tour De Fish Hoek on Saturday and hope you will all be there. It is one of the highlights of the year for the children.
Just a reminder that schools are a NONE SMOKING ZONE! So please refrain from smoking on the property and on the stone area at the gate.
If anyone knows of a Granny Flat for rent in Fish Hoek please could you please let the office know.
NB NB NB NB NB NB NB NB
We have invited some Children from Rainbow Pre-school in Masi to come on a play date tomorrow morning. There are about 50 children to transport and I am asking if there are any parents who are willing to help transport them to school at about 8.30am and then back to Masi at about 11.30am. Please let me know today if you are able to help.
It is such a treat for them to come and play in our environment.
They wait eagerly with their bags at their school gate and the delight on their faces when they reach our school is something to behold. Their teachers also gain such valuable input from an educational point of view. So please assist if you can!!
WEEK 3
Parenting survival guide:
If you want to help children develop creatively, then give them an opportunity to explore the world without a house full of toys!
If you provide them with a toy for every occasion, then how can they possibly learn to use their own creative imaginations?

-Give them some time to invent their own lasers, rather than buying them cheap toys that they will come to rely on.
-Allow them to make their own clubhouse, rather than having it pre-built out of cheap plastic.
-Let them learn the joy of building their own swords, rather than buying them battery-equipped toys that send off electronic lights to destroy their imaginary ememies.
-Allow them to invent their own games, rather than always buying them games that they soon tire of. In other words, give your child an opportunity to use his or her creative genius, rather than supplying it courtesy of a manufacturer.
-While you are at it, turn off the television for several hours each day and encourage the children to get outdoors and get involved with life. If you fill up all of their movements with gadgets and programmed entertainment, you are dulling their senses and teaching them to rely on someone else in order to make their lives fun and interesting.
-Allow them to express their creative urges by letting them have free rein without a large supply of toys and gadgets.
-A child who watches television all day long soon thinks that television keeps him from being bored. In reality it is causing boredom. The creative child needs to learn to take care of his own needs and never know boredom. Certainly some television is not harmful, but when you consider that the average child spends far more time just watching commercials than he does in creative enterprises, you might just want to consider allowing your child to rely on themselves more frequently.

While toys are wonderful, they are not the source of creativity. The application of the toys and the ability to invent one’s own toys are the true marks of a creative child. Be creative when buying gifts. Get them logs and blocks that they can use to build their own castles, art equipment and blackboards to make their own creations, or puzzles and books that will stimulate rather than dull their creative urges. You make a big difference in a child’s creativity, simply by the purchasing decisions you make, so use your own creativity to its maximum when shopping for children.

SAFE HOME/ FOSTER CARE

Our local office of Department of Social Development in Fish Hoek are desperately looking for families who could foster children. If anyone would like to find out more about it or know someone who would be interested in fostering a child, please come and chat to me.

EQ Coping with unexpected change/ Getting better at learning
Gen Shopping (swopping, bartering)
Maths Money
Language 3 letter blends eg mom, dad etc.
Last week the class missed Aunty Merle (Mrs Mc Donald) because her mother passed away and she went to Kimberely to be with her family. She is back today but our sincere condolences are with her and her family during this sad time.
Our EQ theme coping with unexpected changes has been so good because I have noticed quite a few children becoming a little nervous and anxious about going to a new school. It is normal for children to be worried about leaving our school. I have been discussing Grade 1 and the excitement of wearing a school uniform and moving on to a new school.
Skills to focus on- tying shoelaces, writing name correctly from memory, identifying numerals from 1 -20
and getting dressed and packing my school bag independently- this encourages children to be responsible for their belongings. The skills I have been encouraging you to extend at home will help your child feel more comfortable and able to cope at primary school.
We will be discussing money- matching and grouping coins as well as using it to buy things in the shop. The children will have to learn what coins they can use to buy something that is 15 cents- 10c + 5c, 20c+20c = 40c etc. The group are really enjoying doing sums and many children are writing their own sums and challenging their friends to answer them.
We have been counting the days to The Tour de Fish Hoek Pre-Primary - it is in 5 days time on Saturday 29 October at the False Bay College cnr of Kommetjie Road and 7th Avenue.  The children need to be there by 8-15 am. All the children are very excited about the event so I urge you to please attend.
Our class is helping at the Cool drink stall. We need to help serve at the stall.  I've put up a list outside our class so please try and help us during the morning. Fill your name in at a time that suits you.
The children need to bring their bicycles or scooters to school on Friday 28 October. We will take them to the college on Saturday morning and once the children have ridden them you can take them home. There are children who do not have bicycles and scooters so we always take the schools scooters.
Important dates in November:
The Nativity Play on Saturday 26 Nov at 12pm. Please sign and return the green from to let us know if your child will be able to participate in the play.
The weather is getting hotter and the sun is strong so please wear hats or caps to school. No hat or cap! No playing in the garden!
Have a wonderful week

FACEBOOK
We love sharing pictures from the school day. Teachers only put photos up on Facebook once a week. Any parent who does not want their child’s photos to appear on Facebook should let their teacher know. www.facebook.com/fhpps.

And on that note...

“While we try to teach our children all about life, our children teach us what life is all about.”
