Sunday's Message: "Figs and Tables"

Mark 11:12-25

The prophet Micah talked about a day when God’s reign would be established in the earth, and on that day each person would have his or her own fig tree to sit under. The tree would provide shade from the heat of the day and nourishment from the sweet figs. The fig tree is frequently used in the Old Testament as a symbol of God’s provision, blessing, and favor. The fig tree was so synonymous with God’s blessing, that it became symbolic of God’s people.

In this week’s reading we are told Jesus encountered a fig tree; it was a fig tree that produced no figs. This is the only negative miracle in the Gospels. This one time Jesus curses rather than blesses. The fruitless tree was cursed, it withered, and died. What good is a fruit tree that does not produce fruit? The tree still consumed resource and space, but it was barren. A faithful farmer will cut down the fruitless tree and replace it with one that will produce. Accordingly, what is God to do when the people of God stop producing fruit?

Prairie Hills wants to extend our love and gratitude to the Allen family for their ministry. Please join us for a time of blessing with coffee and cake following Pastor Isaiah's last service on October 30th.

Fall Festival

Join us TONIGHT from 6:30 - 7:30 pm for our indoor Fall Festival.  We will be serving hot dogs, chips, hot cocoa and water.  We will have a pumpkin patch and games throughout the church.

We could still use volunteers to help in various areas.  Be at the church no later than 6:15 pm if you would like to help.

Saturday, October 29th

Join the PHCC family at 5:00 pm for a free Kosher Dinner and listen to Stefan Mihaescu, a missionary to Jerusalem, speak, play music, and answer questions about Jerusalem.  Contact Roger Quam at 366-4982 with any questions.

Saturday, November 5th

Only one week away!  Set your clocks back an hour on November 5th.

Prairie Hills is forming a work team to participate in Habitat for Humanity build projects over the next year. Habitat has 12 partner families who are currently in the program and working to complete their homes within the next 2-8 months. One indoor build will be started over the winter, and then 8 new construction builds will begin in Spring 2017.  NO EXPERIENCE is necessary.  Work will vary depending on the stage of the project.  Construction supervisors will be present to direct our team.  Work shifts will be one of the following:
Saturday morning (8:30 - 11:30); Saturday afternoon (12 - 3); or Wednesday evenings (5 - 8).
We would like to schedule one PHCC shift per month.  If you are interested in joining the team, please contact Lisa Ross at lisa.ross@siouxfallshabitat.org or cell 605-553-0834.

Wednesday nights

The Adult Discipleship Commission has set a goal to support our everyday growth of faith in the church by offering an opportunity for us to gather together and explore daily life challenges. Together, we will identify many of the issues of life that are stumbling blocks in our daily faith journey - family, loss, grief, entertainment, finances, etc.  The L.I.F.E. Lessons will be on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 - 7:30 pm in the Fireside Room.
