The whole school listens to our preschool as they sing...

Big Brother...

(And big sisters too!) The vast majority of our McDowell students take their "job" of being a student very seriously. It is wonderful to witness their positive attitude to school.

As our elementary students take part in their first parent/student/teacher conference of the year they will be involved in identifying their positive attributes as well as selecting one particular attribute they want to improve upon.

There are so many excellent qualities being manifested daily, I wanted to comment on one in particular.

It is heartwarming to witness the interplay between siblings. I know that what I see might not reflect what you see at home, but I am constantly (pleasantly) surprised at how many truly great brothers and sisters we have here. It sets a tone for caring that models for everyone, so even solo children get in on the act with the McDowell "brothers and sisters" around them.

It is a credit to you as parents and a keystone of our community.

Red Ribbon Week

Our focus at McDowell for Red Ribbon week is on making healthy choices. We have fun dressing up and decorating doors, but the important lessons we hope will last a lifetime. On Monday we wore team jerseys to support the theme of "Team Up" against drugs. Above, some of the teachers supporting Ms. Wilson as she sells the ever popular Boo Grams.

Tuesday was Western Day as we "Gave Drugs The Boot"
(above) our Elementary and (below) Kindergarten Cowpokes...

Wednesday was Mismatch Day  as we made sure that we  "Don't Get Mixed Up in Drugs"
Kendrick (shown here with Nico) had the most mismatched pieces; socks, shoes, gloves, hat, shirts, pants, dressing gown and tie.

Thursday was Superhero Day as  "Real Super-Heroes Say No To Drugs"

Friday was Hawaiian Day as we pledged to "Lei off Drugs"

Each class used it's door to further the message of Healthy Choices (Winners in each category are in red)

On Thursday the girls traveled to Calvary School where they lost the first set, fought back and won the second, but sadly lost out in the third set.Coach Myers reports that he was incredibly proud of the girls who played an excellent game against some tough competition.
