You Can Start Anytime (Even Today)

Hello scribes,

Have you ever noticed that sometimes, we procrastinate with taking action on our goals because we think, “it’s not yet the right time”? For example, we’re waiting for a less busy time at work before we show more attention to our spouse. We’re doing more research or waiting to gather more capital and connections before we start a new business. Or we’re waiting for one thing or the other before we take the next step towards achieving our dreams. Perhaps we think it might be better to wait for a new week, or a new month or a new year before we begin a project.

But that’s not necessarily true. The most important thing you can do when it comes to success, especially with starting a new project, a new business, a new situation, is get in the game. Just start. Committing to a project simply means taking one small step towards it. If you want to go for an MBA, just start with one thing: clearing your schedule, applying to the school, or booking an appointment to speak with the admissions department. If you’ve always wanted to start a business, don’t spend months and years mulling it over. Just take the first step. Then the next. You can spend months drawing up very beautiful detailed plans, but you’ll only get the real-world experience from taking the next steps and doing the work.

It’s October already and November is almost here. That means 2016 is coming to an end soon. In 2015, did you have plans to write a novel this year? Have you been able to achieve it? Perhaps you’re thinking, it’s too late for me to start writing my novel this year, let me wait until next year. But it isn’t! You don’t have to wait for a big calendar change before you start working towards your dream. You can start anytime, yes, even today! And there are still 60 days before Christmas, plenty of time for you to get started and making progress with your writing project.

Are you ready to make the most of the rest of 2016? Let’s do this!

I’ve put together a six-week Creative Writing Course, for new writers who want to write a novel. I’m doing two programmes, a classroom-based course and an online course.

The classroom based course will hold every Saturday afternoon starting on the 5th of November for writers based in Lagos, Nigeria.
The online class will take place every Thursday evening, starting on the 10th of November. This class will be held live, and the sessions recorded for people who want a recording to listen to later.

We will cover topics like: Characters, Point of View, Setting, Plot, Dialogue, Genres, etc. Both classes will last for two hours per session and include: tutorials, writing exercises, workbooks, feedback and an assignment. At the end of the course, you will have started writing your book, and you’ll be armed with the knowledge you need to keep going.

I’m keeping the class sizes small, so that we can make the most of the time we have together, and I can give enough time and attention to all the participants.

Now, I know you may be hesitating. Today may not feel like the “right time” to join this writing course. But was last year any better? Will next year really be any different? The truth is, there will never be a perfect time! A year ago, you were talking about all the things you were going to do “next year” when you got some free time. But here’s the brutal truth: Life only gets busier. If you don’t create boundaries and decide what you want to do, the world will decide for you.

If you’re interested in writing your novel and tired of procrastinating, don’t delay, get in touch! Just hit reply on this email and let me know which of the classes you’re interested in. I’ll be happy to answer your questions, and I look forward to working with you to get your writing projects going.

To your writing and publishing success!
