Guess Who Had A Second Slab Leak?
<<First Name>>,

If you guessed I had a second slab leak, you are right!  I could not believe it, a second slab leak in about 6 weeks.  And of course, it happened on a Friday afternoon when everyone was going home for the weekend.  Leading up to the second leak, we could feel the floor was warm in a similar location to where our first leak had occurred.  The first leak we had repaired by Evans Leak Detection.  They did a great job finding the leak, repiping with Pex through the existing copper pipe and fixing it.  Now, we had water coming out through the pipe that leaked before.  Initially, I thought the Pex was leaking, but then I realized the original copper pipe had a hole in it underground and the water was leaking from another pipe close by.  Needless to say, my wife and I were fairly distraught and upset that we had to deal with this.  I knew we had only one option...to do a full repipe of the entire home.  We managed to get through the weekend and into the next week by turning off our water main for the majority of each day.
I have had many clients go through a full repipe already, so I knew who to call: Repipe1.  I know they have had great reviews from my clients that have used them.
Within a day of calling for a quote, there was a gentleman at my house providing us a full proposal.  He said our house would look like Swiss cheese once they were done with repiping (however, nothing can prepare you for what the Swiss cheese really looks like).  After receiving a second bid from another repiping company, we chose Repipe1.  They started work that Friday.  On that same day, our house had running water again!  The guts of our home were definitely exposed due to how they repipe.  They cut holes in the exterior where you have plumbing fixtures and go through the first floor ceiling to run the lines from the garage to the kitchen and to upstairs (pictured above).  Our house definitely looked like Swiss cheese.
Once the city inspector signed off on their work, the patchers arrived to fill in the holes with drywall and stucco.  All we have left now is to paint.
As painful as it is to deal with a slab leak, I am much happier knowing we have new pipes throughout our entire home and that we do not have a ticking bomb in our plumbing any more.
If you are wondering if insurance covered the loss, they would have.  I chose not to submit a claim, because our rates would have gone up by 40% for the next 3 years.  And, if we would submit a second claim in the next 3 years, our insurance company would drop us.  Yes, it cost us about $3000 more out of pocket by not filing a claim, but I also do not have to worry, if we were to have a second claim in the near future, about getting dropped.  For that, I can sleep better at night.

My wife, Elizabeth, is a Mom, an amazing wife and an incredible chef. She trained at the California Culinary Academy in San Francisco. She shares a helpful tip below.

With the fall upon us, there is nothing better than having a hot breakfast on a cool morning and just in time for Halloween.

Pumpkin Pancakes

Ingredients:

1 1/2 cups milk

1 cup pumpkin puree

1 egg

2 tablespoons vegetable oil

2 tablespoons vinegar

2 cups all-purpose flour

3 tablespoons brown sugar

2 teaspoons baking powder

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon ground allspice

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon ground ginger

1/2 teaspoon salt

Directions:
In a bowl, mix together the milk, pumpkin, egg, oil and vinegar. Combine the flour, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, allspice, cinnamon, ginger and salt in a separate bowl. Stir into the pumpkin mixture just enough to combine.
Heat a lightly oiled griddle over medium-high heat. Pour batter onto the griddle, using approximately 1/4 cup for each pancake. Cook until brown on both sides and serve hot.  Enjoy!
