What is NaProTechnology?

NaProTECHNOLOGY (NPT) is a science of women's healthcare that approaches procreative and gynecologic health problems in a way which is completely cooperative with the menstrual and fertility cycles. This educational technology, developing for over three decades, allows a woman to monitor a variety of different biological markers that reflect the occurrence of various hormone events during the course of her menstrual cycle.

Doctors trained in NPT can use these markers, along with other medical technologies, to solve problems of; infertility, repetitive miscarriage, recurrent ovarian cysts, polycystic ovarian syndrome, endometriosis, hormonal abnormalities, and abnormal bleeding. NPT has been very effective in treating infertility.

MaterCare's International conferences in Rome have been, and continue to be a source for the latest techniques and information on NaPro Technology developments. It continues to be at the forefront of medical technologies that women can use safely and effectively with their partners to achieve or avoid pregnancy.

Project Isiolo
Latest News:
Contruction continues at Project Isiolo, MaterCare's maternity hospital named after St. John Paul II located in rural Isiolo, Kenya.

Project Isiolo provides a much needed hospital for high risk mothers. The centre is fully equipped and staffed to provide Level 1 obstetrical services. The project also provides emergency transport and communication. The roads in the region are difficult to travel and require a fully equipped 4 X 4 ambulance to get mothers who require life saving services. Satellite phones and radios will link up villages to nursing stations and to the maternity hospital.

Whenever possible, MaterCare uses salvaged materials, green options like solar energy and biofuel, as well as collecting rainwater. Project Isiolo is a great example of environmentally responsible construction and services.

From our visits and from the experience of local TBAs and midwives- there continues to be a great need for adequate and clean services for mothers, and they continue to suffer and die from neglect of these services.

Project Isiolo is a solution to this ongoing neglect.
