The 2017 SNIA Annual Members’ Symposium will take place January 17-20, 2017 at the Westin San Jose in San Jose, CA.  Attending this event is the best way to find out what is going on within SNIA - its standards, education, and outreach activities. It also offers an excellent opportunity to meet face-to-face with SNIA leadership, Technical Work Group members, and Forum/Initiative colleagues in a collaborative setting.  The week’s agenda will include general sessions on key topics in the industry, multiple breakout sessions and the one-day Persistent Memory Summit.  Symposium attendance is complimentary for individuals employed with SNIA member companies. Non-SNIA member guests are welcome to attend open sessions such as keynotes, birds-of-a-feather sessions, and Forum/Initiative meetings (at no charge) to learn more about SNIA activities. SNIA Swordfish™ v1.0.2 Available for Public Review

The SNIA Scalable Storage Management (SSM) Technical Work Group (TWG) has been working to develop the new SNIA Swordfish™ specification at a record pace, and the 1.0.2 Work-in-Progress version is now ready for public review at http://www.snia.org/publicreview. This version includes documentation formatting improvements, clarifications, and updates for better compatibility with the DMTF Redfish specification.
 
An extension to the Distributed Management Task Force’s (DMTF) Redfish specification, SNIA Swordfish helps to provide a unified approach for the management of storage and servers in hyperscale and cloud infrastructure environments, making it easier for IT administrators to integrate scalable solutions into their data centers.

Containers: Best Practices and Data Management Services

This webcast will take a deeper dive into what differentiates container technology from what you are used to with virtual machines (VMs). Containers can both complement VMs and also replace them as they promise the ability to scale exponentially higher. They can easily be ported from one physical server to another or to one platform—such as on-premise—to another—such as public cloud providers like Amazon AWS. In this webcast, we’ll explore “container best practices” that discuss how to address the various challenges around networking, security and logging. We’ll also look at what types of applications more easily lend themselves to a microservice architecture versus which applications may require additional investment to refactor/re-architect to take advantage of microservices.
