Danzer CEO Addresses UNECE

Hans-Joachim Danzer spoke at the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe in Geneva about the opportunities for forest products. The Danzer CEO stated that he is confident that hardwood can compete effectively on its own merits. He did not ask for any special help from policy makers - provided there is a fair playing field compared to other materials and that regulations do not overburden smaller companies.

Update On Formaldehyde Emissions

Under court order, EPA is updating data on affected plywood and composite wood products plants and lumber dry kilns for a new risk and technology review to evaluate the National Emissions Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants. The information collection request for emission inventories, compliance demonstrations, process changes, and information about adopted controls will be sent to all known facilities considered to be major sources. The testing/Phase II survey will be sent to selected facilities across industry segments. HPVA®, AF&PA, and NCASI are collaborating on comments for EPA's draft survey.

ECONOMIC TRENDS

2 Views On The Housing Market

As U.S. home prices continued to grow in August and the home-price index rose 0.5%, experts at Trulia stated that rising home prices are a greater concern than interest rate increases. CMHC issued two reports indicating that the Canadian housing market is overvalued and could lead to fewer housing starts. However, the Dodge 2017 Construction Outlook predicts 5% growth - "a more mature phase of expansion" of the construction industry. Multifamily housing is expected to stay flat while single family housing grows 12%.
