WEEK 3
Parenting survival guide:

Take those opportunities and make memories
A parent’s life is so rushed these days with work commitments and all that goes with family life. As parents we are forever sitting in the traffic on our way to and from dropping our children off at school, or waiting patiently for our children to finish their extra murals. The question I ask is, “Are we missing opportunities to make memories, or are we just too rushed to see the opportunities standing right in front of our eyes?”
Memories are what stay with us long after the event. They make us smile and make us cry. They shape us and teach us. They are what living is all about.
I challenge myself and those who want to be challenged to make memories for your children. Give them something to talk to their children about. Be spontaneous and live life to the full.
So when next you are driving home with your children on a beautiful afternoon:
*Stop to look at the dolphins in the bay!
*Grab your cozzies and your towel and spend a few happy moments together on the beach with the sand between your toes, building sand castles and enjoying the cool fresh ocean.
Homework can wait a few moments, routines can be a little mixed up tonight…..we are out making memories!!!!!!!

CHRISTMAS BOXES FOR THE CHILDREN AT RAINBOW PRESCHOOL IN MASI!

We will once again be making up Christmas boxes for the children and teachers of Rainbow Pre-School. The children are between the ages of 3 and 6 years and get so excited each year when the presents are delivered to their school.
The ages and amount of boys and girls will be up on a list outside your child’s classroom. Please put your name on the list to let us know what box you will be making up.
The boxes are made up as follows:
Toiletries (face cloth, soap, toothbrush and toothpaste)
A toy
A packet of sweets
An item of clothing
A book or stationery items
Please wrap your box and drop it off in the office for us to deliver at the end of November. If there are any parents who would like to come to the school in Masi on the day of delivery you are most welcome to come with me.

Class News

Sea Horse

Hello Everyone.
Thank you to all the parents for your support and help on Saturday at the Tour De Fish Hoek! I could tell by the photos that the children had a wonderful time.
Our next event is the Orientation Day on Sat 12th Nov. Children come to school to meet their teacher for next year and visit their new classroom and teacher.
We continue with the theme of Wild Animals and our focus is Auditory Discrimination.
We will also be starting with Christmas art activities this week.
Have a Blessed week.

EQ: Getting better at learning
Gen: Fractions in our environment
Maths: Fractions
Lang: Three letter blends

TINS: We are collecting tins, tuna tins and the 400g size tins that you get tomatoes, baked beans etc
Please save us your empty tins and send them to school. Each child needs 2 tins- a tuna sized tin and a 400g tin. We will be using them for Christmas decorations.

Thank you for attending the cycle race on Saturday. The children had a good time and loved their medals.
Our next big event is our Nativity Play on Saturday 26 Nov at 12pm. The children will need to be at school by 11-15am. On Friday we were delighted at how well the Angels knew their words. Thank you for helping to teach them the words because it has made them feel so confident and proud.
In our EQ theme getting better at learning we discussed things that the children have learned to do- tie shoelaces, write their name, identify 2 and 3 d shapes,  skip with a rope, ride a scooter and do the monkey bars. They were very proud at what they have achieved.
I am making them aware that they can "read" by letting them read titles on books and identify words and letters in books. They are amazed that they can do it. At home encourage you child to look at books and find letters in them. Going to Grade 1 can be a scary experience for some children but if they are prepared and know that they will cope with the work then it will help them to feel more confident.
In Maths we will be comparing fractions 1/2, 1/4 and 1/3. We will discuss a whole and the fraction. We will cut up fruit, bread and paper. I will also link it to time and number. 1 is half of 2 , 2 is half of 4 etc.
I urge you to continue to extend your child's maths skill to help them cope at school.
Last Thursday the Head of department for Grade 1 and Grade R at Fish Hoek Primary school visited us to give us feedback from last years children and for us to chat about the children going to them. We were delighted with their feedback as they said our children that went to them were well prepared for school. The one problem they mentioned was pencil grip. I have been trying to correct the children's grip all year and cannot stress the importance of this. If you are unsure of the correct grip ask us to show you. To help them correct their grip we have given them a small piece of paper to hold under their ring and baby finger so that they only use the thumb, pointer and middle finger to hold the pencil.
Have a good week

FACEBOOK
We love sharing pictures from the school day. Teachers only put photos up on Facebook once a week. Any parent who does not want their child’s photos to appear on Facebook should let their teacher know. www.facebook.com/fhpps.

And on that note...

POSITIVE THINGS TO SAY TO YOUR CHILD!
  1. Your ideas are interesting!
  2. You have made me think of things in a completely different way!
  3. I’m excited to see what you do!
  4. Thanks for helping me!
