First cohort of Subject Ambassadors at King Harold Academy

King Harold Academy has introduced its first cohort of Subject Ambassadors to promote all aspects of their curriculum at both key stages within the school and to parents and carers.

The Subject Ambassadors will be involved in all subject promotion, including extra-curricular activities, Options Evenings and Academic Review Evenings.

Older students will also be leading on the coaching and mentoring of students in Year 8 and Year 7, including offering additional support with homework for students with special education needs.

Each subject has anything from three to eight Ambassadors who had to submit a written application stating why they thought they would be suitable and what they could bring to the role.

Competition was tough and the Ambassadors wear their badges with pride.

Amy Hamilton, the Year 11 Subject Ambassador for Geography, said: “It is just a small way that students can give back to the school to repay the commitment from many of the teachers.

"If you feel passionate about a subject and enjoy the lessons then it’s a way of doing your bit to raise its profile.

"Of course, it doesn’t hurt that I’ll be applying to college next year and things such as this look great on a CV!”

Year 11 student Steven Skinner recognises the improved extra-curricular offer that King Harold has had over the last year and is keen to get involved.

“Music offers a lot of opportunities here at King Harold and I am keen to contribute to this as a Subject Ambassador, both for my year group and the younger students.”

Student Ambassadors take their role for the whole academic year and will also be involved in the new recruits for the 2017-18 academic year come the summer term.
