The Parish will host its Annual All Saints & All Souls Vigil on November 2nd at 7pm at St. Johns (1470 Donald B. Munro).

This is a special service at which those recently departed are listed and honoured with the lighting of a candle.

Attendees will also be invited to light a candle for anyone who is departed.

Please invite anyone whom you know is grieving the loss of a loved one ~ the service is open to all.

Light refreshments and a time of fellowship will follow the service

This Sunday ~ Bring your Leaf Blower & Rake to Church Day

This Sunday after the St. James service help is needed in blowing the leaves on the parish hall property and in the cemetery. We blow them in to the ravine and around the bases of the big trees so there is no 'bagging' to be done.

We will start after a hot soup light lunch.

So that means we also need two pots of soup!

If anyone can bring soup (or other lunch-type things) please call Cathy at the office at 613-839-3195 and let her know what you can bring. Or you can email her at huntleyoffice@bellnet.ca

Thanks tons!
Monique

P.S. High School hours can be collected for this task... please bring your form for me to sign
We had a great time at the 5th Annual Pumpkin Carving Night!

Thanks to everyone who came out for the fun!

A note on Standing Rock

Because absolutely no mainstream media is reporting on this issue it is likely very difficult for many of you to know that there is what an incredibly huge  situation happening in North Dakota right now regarding the use of sacred space of the indigenous people for the building of a large underground pipeline. The United Nations is involved and there are reports of many injustices being done against indigenous people.

There is much to say about this but I too am learning as I go so I refer you to some helpful articles below.

Please know that a call out to clergy from all denominations was made by a priest in the Episcopal Church in the US (that is what the Anglican church is called in the States) and that over 400 clergy have responded to the call and will be travelling to Standing Rock today and tomorrow for a peaceful witness event on November 4th. Please keep them in your prayers.

I encourage you to learn about and pray for this situation.

This video highlights the ministries that we provide financial (and non-financial support for). How much do you know about these organizations that are part of our broader church? Is there a way that we should learn more?

Shoebox Ministry has begun!

The Sunday School has started the Shoebox Ministry. Please drop materials off at the Parish Hall as soon as you can or bring them to Sunday service at St. James!

Materials are being collected for the entire month of October (see box in the Parish Hall) and empty boxes are available for those who would like to fill one on their own. Last year over 75 boxes were created by our community.

If you can provide any materials for the box creation please drop them off to the Parish Hall or bring them to church. The last day for Shoebox creation is November 13th.

SHOEBOX is a ministry geared to provide small gifts for children from aged 2 – 14. Boxes are available at the Parish Hall and will be made available at St. John's and at Christ Church in the coming weeks.

There are three ways to participate:
1. Take a box home and fill it up with your family members and returning it to the Parish Office before Thursday, November 10th
2. Provide materials and gifts for the children to fill up the boxes in the Sunday School (items to be delivered on or before Thursday, November 12th to the Parish Hall)
3. Provide additional funds for the costs of the boxes (each box requires a 7.00 delivery fee). Please contact Cathy for more information (613-839-3195)

To find out more about this ministry please see their website by clicking HERE

Fill your shoebox, or provide the following for the kids to fill boxes, with a well-balanced variety of items from the following categories:
School Supplies - Items such as pencils, pens, pencil crayons, note pads, and picture books
Toys & Other Gifts - Items such as stuffed animals, small musical instruments, hair clips, toy jewelry, t-shirts, socks, and candy (loose, individually wrapped hard candy in a sealable bag)
Hygiene Items  - Please place soap in a sealable bag

DO NOT INCLUDE:
Toothpaste (due to customs regulations)
Food and any chewy, crumbly, or soft candy: Including gum (due to customs regulations)
Used items (due to customs regulations)
Playing cards (other card games such as UNO are allowed)
Liquids or items that could leak, melt, freeze, or break - Shampoo, creams, lip balm, bath gels, mirrors, or glass, etc. (these can damage other items in the shoe box).
Items that can scare or harm a child - War-related toys, knives, and toy guns, etc.

If you go to Party City on Merivale Road they will provide you with a discount if you tell them you are filling a Shoebox for Samaritans Purse.

Please contact Cathy Yocom for more information on this ministry: 613-839-3195

A Note on Shoebox Ministry

A big thank you to those of you who have brought to my attention some issues surrounding the organization that runs the Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Ministry. This information has been cause for much discernment and conversation this week.

As our program has already started, and it is led by the Sunday School children of various ages, we will continue with this ministry for 2016 and will begin a discernment process in 2017 with the aim to have the children and emerging adults in our parish to take some time to consider what ministry will be most appropriate for our community to support in future.

I appreciate your support of this plan and would welcome a conversation at anytime to discuss further.

Please remember that Shoebox is but one of four ministries we support around the Christmas season.

Don't hesitate to call to discuss.

Monique

Please read the following note from Pam:

We are in the final preparation for the Christmas Craft Sale on November 19 and we need a little help.

1.  Secret Santa Shop
We need items for the Secret Santa Shop.  This is a kids only zone where they can shop and wrap presents for mom & dad.  Volunteers help with the wrapping.  We are looking for new and gently used items:  jewelry, books, coffee and tea cups, new candles, new soaps, decorative gift ware, etc., etc.   Don't forget about Dad - books, fishing stuff, ties, etc.   Purses and wallets were a hit last year.   Mom and Dad will be opening these gifts on Christmas morning so we want our young shoppers to be proud.   Get your friends and colleagues involved!!  It's amazing what gems we have hidden in our cupboards and drawers.

WE NEED THE DONATIONS BY SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 12.  Let me know when you have a donation and I'll arrange for a pickup.

2.  Bake Table
The day of the sale (SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 19) we are looking for the following:  chili, soup and baked goods.  Last year our lunch was a hit!!  Baked goods should be wrapped in small packages ready to be sold (eg. cookies and squares 6 per pack).

Please contact Pam (number above) directly if you can help out!

At Synod 2016 we will review and discuss the budget that has been drafted for the next three years. You you can access a narrative version of the budget HERE and detailed information within the Synod Circular (starting on page 102) that is found HERE.

What are we Reading each Sunday?

What will we be reading each Sunday?
Our parish follows the Revised Common Lectionary (a three year cycle of readings from the bible). If you would like to know what we will be reading the upcoming Sunday you can find it on our website under resources. The link is found HERE. There are sometimes exceptions to the reading list (i.e. on Sunday, January 3rd, 2016 we are using the Epiphany Readings that are listed on the actual day of Epiphany, January 6th but in general I stay pretty committed to following the RCL)

2016 & 2017 Schedule

The 2016 Schedule is available HERE. It is also on the website at huntleyparish.com
