It's a winner!
The winner of the photographic competition was a picture of Trevithick's replica steam locomotive at Blist Hills Museum taken by Alan Lees of Little Wenlock.  In total we had 122 entries and will be using them for promotions across our web pages and social media feeds.  More can be seen here
Many thanks to all the local businesses who supported us in this enterprise, and especially to  Louise Welsby and Richard Childs for judging.

Membership benefits

It would seem some people aren't sure if they are members - well everyone needs to pay from 1st November, which makes it straight forward.  With no further costs this gives you your listing on the website, various orientation trips we run, Training Courses, access to cheaper Visit Britain registration, free entry to Ludlow Food festival, discounts on various activities, listing in the printable Visitor Guide, free listing on Buy-From Shropshire's website plus Great Days in the Shropshire Hills map. All this for £45.  Check out the website If you don't show you weren't a member - but just email info@visitshropshirehills.co.uk to get yourself onboard.

Spotlight on...

The first in a new series, featuring on our website, showcases the people and establishment that is The Coach House at Norbury.  Find out all about Sean, Lexi and little Martha here along with great places to eat and what makes them tick.
If you are interested in being featured in a future post please get in touch with Louise

Are your business rates too high?

Rates are a government tax on businesses, and have been revised for your bill coming next April.  Check out your valuation here and review the details they hold.  In the m2 / units column I think they display beds.  Handy tip - make sure all units are registered under one banner and then get small business relief for all of them

Facebook simply explained

Our thanks go to Louise Welsby for teaching the Facebook course, generously facilitated by Jack Limmond at The White Horse Inn, Clun on 1st November. Everyone went away with enthusiasm to use social media more efficiently, and we are looking to run further sessions on using pictures, videos, Instagram and more.  Do you know of a venue with suitable WiFi where we might next meet? email info@visitshropshirehills.co.uk
Missed it but interested, look here for online tutorial
Buy-From Shropshire has a new look website and directory of businesses. Shropshire Hills Tourism members can register their business on the Buy-From Shropshire  directory for free using the code ShropshireHills. The link to register is http://www.buy-from.com/register/go-and-see. Normally this would cost £72 p.a.

Ludlow Fringe 2017

Would you like to get involved with helping to organise next year's Ludlow Fringe Festival?  If yes, then they would love to meet you!!
Come along to the fortnightly 'Fringe Nights', starting on Wednesday 9th November at 7.30pm in the Sitting Room (upstairs at the Blue Boar).  These are informal, friendly and sociable evenings where we can work together to plan, organise and make next year’s festival happen.
Members Discount on Promotional Video Production.
We are now excited to offer our members discounted rates on professional promotional video.  Online video consumption is rising dramatically - it can be the quickest and slickest way customers find out all about you, promoting your business, enhancing your website and easily shared in emails and on social media.

Local social enterprise, Green Leaf Eco Films, will produce a polished, informative, one minute promo video for the discounted rate of £150 (which is a bargain!)  They are also offering members YouTube channel design, set-up and tuition - plus more in-depth film production - all at special rates.

Suggestions please

Following the Shrewsbury Orientation Day we received this lovely note:
We just wanted to say thank you for organising this day .  Despite having been coming to Shrewsbury for 10 years we had never done a river trip.  Doing this trip made us realise the geography of the area and how close everything actually is.  We particularly enjoyed the informative walking tour, the guide we had is to be highly recommended.
Many thanks once again.
Richard & Abina Laishley  The Maltsters House, Ludlow
