SLED Provides $16,500 to Support Outdoor Education
Outdoor Education time is just around the corner for the 5th grade students in San Leandro's Elementary Schools. SLED is happy to provide $16,500 to support this great program. The amount awarded to each school depends on enrollment and need. Outdoor Education supports SLED's goal of providing STEAM Enrichment and Positive Youth Development opportunities for students. Outdoor Education lets students learn environmental science first hand, out in nature, all in a context that supports cooperation with fellow students and develops independence by being away from home overnight.
SLED'S Executive Director Morgan Mack-Rose was at McKinley Elementary on Tuesday, November 1st, to present Principal Grozelia Ward, the 5th grade students and their teachers a BIG check for $2,102. The students were so excited to hear the money was for THEIR trip. SLED delivered another "big" check last week to Roosevelt Elementary. SLED will be handing out six more "big" checks in the weeks to come. As an extra bonus, each 5th grade student will receive a drawstring backpack to take on their adventure.

SLHS Dramatic Arts Presents "Almost, Maine"
Mark your calendars now for the upcoming production of "Almost, Maine" presented by the San Leandro High School Dramatic Arts Department. The cast is made up of 19 student actors. There are another 18 or so students working on set building and stage crew. The director is SLHS Drama Teacher, John Sheridan.
Welcome to Almost, Maine, a town that’s so far north, it’s almost not in the United States—it’s almost in Canada. And it almost doesn’t exist. Because its residents never got around to getting organized. So it’s just…Almost.
One cold, clear Friday night in the middle of winter, while the northern lights hover in the sky above, Almost’s residents find themselves falling in and out of love in the strangest ways. Knees are bruised. Hearts are broken. Love is lost, found, and confounded. And life for the people of Almost, Maine will never be the same....
The shows will be held the first two weekends in November at the school's
Arts and Entertainment Theater. Plan now to attend to show your support for the arts in our schools. More information regarding show times and to purchase tickets can be found at www.sanleandropac.com.
