This week's DDG featured org, Heeling House, was founded by Kathy Benner, an animal behavior expert, who has spent her career working with animals from penguins to llamas. Her background is reflected in the wide spectrum of training programs for animals, which includes multiple levels of animal-assisted training, and a canine good citizen course. Never fear, however, as Heeling House employs human specialists as well -- that is, people who specialize in people. (Pssst... click here for a couple of work opportunities). A degree in behavioral sciences isn't required, however. Volunteer applications are available.

Throw away Halloween candy and you'll risk the wrath of your children (unless we're talking about circus peanuts or candy corn, those are the devil's confections), but share Halloween candy with a soldier who couldn't be home for costumes and trick-or-treat, and your kid can be part of something bigger than himself. Operation Gratitude collects donations of Halloween candy and ships boxes to US military members serving overseas. There are even special instructions for dentists who want to hold candy buy-back events The good feeling of sharing is even better than all those fun-size Snickers bars.

“Money is not the only commodity that is fun to give. We can give time, we can give our expertise, we can give our love or simply give a smile. What does that cost? The point is, none of us can ever run out of something worthwhile to give.”
― Steve Goodier
