Message from the Principal

Last week was a huge week of reflection - sharing how well we have been doing over the last few years with the Department of Education Services (DES) and celebrating the wonderful work of our teachers last Friday for World Teachers' Day.  Thank you to all the members of the Coolbinia community who participated.
Now, after taking a few days to smell the roses, I would like to start moving forward and creating our new Business Plan which will be our guiding document through the next three years. In doing so I would value your input. Over the remaining weeks of this term I will be seeking your views while we draw up this document. I will be extending our existing Coolbinia Coffee Chats to not just Friday mornings but various other times through the day and evening in order to provide all community members at Coolbinia a chance to share in the process.  We expect sessions to take approximately one hour. Please watch out for a list of dates and times in the bulletins so you can participate if you would like to do so. There is just one rule... you must RSVP as numbers will be strictly limited for productivity purposes.  Please email us with your preferred times once the list is available.

The first CCC will be this Friday after the assembly.  Please RSVP for this session by Thursday.

Thank you to the P&C for organising last week's Spooky Disco. I must say there were the most beautiful scary witches and the cutest skeletons I have ever seen! I am not sure though who had the most fun dressing up - the parents or children and our bigger kids loved their movie night. What a great night!

Buy a Poppy for Remembrance Day

Friday 11 November

We would like to support the annual Mount Lawley Inglewood RSL Poppy Appeal again in 2016.
Please support this appeal by sending a gold coin along with your child to give to the classroom teacher s anytime before Friday 11 November.
Students will then receive a poppy to wear next Friday on Remembrance Day.

Mrs Melville and I would like to invite you to a meeting on Thursday 10 November.  We will be outlining some of the planning already underway for Year 6 students in 2017 and the GATE programs for high school in 2018.  Please join us in the school library at 5.30pm.

Canteen Summer Menu

Put it on the fridge!

Here's the latest menu from our fabulous Canteen Committee - all our new items are available from next Monday 7 November.
Our Thursday special is the ever popular sushi - pre-orders are appreciated on this item for catering purposes.  There are also beef and chicken burgers new to the menu.
Wednesday recess cheesies will not be available for the remainder of this term to allow for a few new recess options on Wednesdays... cheesies will still be available on other days.

Butterfly Gardens

Seen the signs?

Have you seen the 20 butterfly signs in the school gardens?  These signs are located next to the host plant of the butterfly on each sign where ever possible.  The butterfly paintings were created by the children, working with Noongar artists Sharyn Egan and Jade Dolman.  What outstanding work!  Congratulations to all involved.

Science Excitement

We have liftoff...

Shrieks of amazement filled the courtyard as film canister rockets blasted metres into the sky! … and this was just the beginning.  Last Friday an education officer from Scitech, representing CSIRO’s Sustainable Futures-Carbon Kids program, visited our school and worked with our Year 5 and 6 students.  Focusing on the properties of carbon, the students conducted a variety of experiments and activities related to their Chemical Science studies.
You can see from the photos how much our students enjoyed this learning experience.

P&C Contact List

Your chance to be in the know

As you already know, the P&C are very busy throughout the year organising events, fundraisers, get-togethers and being all-round very helpful and wonderful people.  They would like to be able to keep the community informed of their activities and the opportunities being created and I would like to support them in that.

To this end, I would ask that if you DO NOT WISH to be on the P&C's email contact list for 2017 that you simply email Annemarie Dembo and include the words "No to P&C email list" in the subject line by Friday 11 November 2016.  We will then ensure those email contact details are not passed on to the P&C.  The P&C have assured me their communications will never reveal individual email addresses and their list will never be passed on to a third party.  They will only use the list for P&C approved activities and not for promotion of anything other than P&C based programs.  I have asked them to ensure that families always have the option to unsubscribe from the list.  Thank you for your support of this group.
