Abundance of Generosity

Two million meals will be provided for neighbors in need thanks to the generosity of community members who attended the Abundance Dinner and Auction.

Our annual Abundance Dinner and Auction was a huge success raising $378,476 to provide food for hungry families and individuals throughout the community.

Thank you to all who attended and donated to this event for sharing your abundance with those in need and for generously supporting our mission to ensure that no person in Pierce County goes hungry.

Mother Earth Farm Update

Fall is in full swing out here at Emergency Food Network's Mother Earth Farm. We've been working on cleaning up and putting things away from the growing season. It's hard to believe now with the rainy weather that we once needed thousands of feet of drip tape for irrigation. A big project this month has been carefully rolling and storing that tape for next year. No small feat.

We're also still harvesting. Our mighty 2016 farm crew from the Washington Correction Center for Women has been a huge help this year. We've harvested over 100,000 pounds of organically grown fruits and vegetables and are still giving out around 1,000 pounds a week. A highlight of this time of year are the Brussel sprouts which are a great treat.

The other big project has been planting and prepping our tunnels. We built 4 new structures last fall to boost our winter growing. Pictured above, is our big high tunnel full of greens. Once these are harvested, we'll switch to one more crop before 2017's cucumbers.

This month is coming up to the end of our season with our crew from the Washington Correction Center for Women. We want to extend a huuuuuuge thank you to them for all their hard work, energy, ideas and community over the course of this season. Thank you!!!

Volunteers of the Month

Margaritha Leuenberger

Margaritha Leuenberger is our November Volunteer of the Month! Margaritha has been lending a hand at the Mobile Food Bank since the site opened in 2014! Her kindness has been invaluable as she helps food bank guest's in any way possible. We are grateful for her strength and character, knowing that at the end of each shift food bank guests have had a pleasurable and dignified experience at the Mobile with the guidance of such amazing volunteers as Margaritha.

Thank you for your being so great, Margaritha!

Pierce County Mustang Club

Several times a year for the past four years the Pierce County Mustang Club members drive their Ford Mustangs (old and new) to our Distribution Center to at our Repack Project (our parking lot looks amazing with all those Mustangs!). We chose the Pierce County Mustang Club as our November Volunteer Group of the Month because of their longtime dedication to relieve hunger in Pierce County, always coming to our Repack Project with a full group, and always with great spirit and smiles (despite the tape machines!).

Thank you Pierce County Mustang Club for your continued partnership. You are a true friend of EFN and the community!
