‘Office block’ flats plan opposed
A proposed development of nine flats on the site of Victoria Hall in Greenyard, Waltham Abbey, would resemble an office block and should be rejected, the town council has said.
The planning and licensing committee is objecting to the plans for the one-bedroom flats in a three-storey building.
Councillors say the proposed building would be overbearing to the neighbouring 150-year-old cottages and “give an overdominant feel”.
It would also be out of keeping and not be a suitable addition to the conservation area.
Concerns have also been raised over parking, drainage and potential flooding issues in the area.
No objections to health and leisure plans
No objections have been voiced by Waltham Abbey Town Council to outline plans for health and leisure facilities at Hillhouse on the Ninefields estate in Waltham Abbey.
A planning application has been submitted for a health centre, 60 Independent Living apartments for older people, a leisure centre and swimming pool and open space which would include a mini soccer pitch for use by children aged under eight.
