Happy Halloween 🎃

Today - October 31, 2015 1:00 p.m.

El Cerrito High marching band will be at Madera for the Halloween Parade at 1:00. Parents please join on the lower playground, to watch all the little ghosts and goblins parade around the yard.

Please keep all weapons and scary masks at home.

Don't forget: It's a MINIMUM DAY - pick-up at 1:51

Running Club Reminders ☔

We always welcome new runners. Every kid at Madera already has a running badge. Just come down to the lower play yard, and tell one of the volunteers what class you're in, and get going.

For the safety of the kids, just a couple reminders:
  • Please don't drop kids off earlier than 8:00 a.m. There aren't any adults on campus to watch them.
  • There is no Running Club on rainy days. We don't want your child standing in the rain, freezing their hiney off. So please wait to drop off until 8:20 when the campus opens.

Parent Teacher Conferences

Tuesday, Nov. 1st - Wednesday, Nov. 9th (Minimum Days)
November 1st - NO SCHOOL

Hopefully by now you have already scheduled your conference with your child's teacher. It’s a chance for you to ask questions about the class or your child’s progress. It is also a time for you and the teacher to work together as a team to discuss ways you both can help your son or daughter.

Parents please be mindful about time. Teachers have a lot of conferences to schedule, and they want to be able to give everyone individual attention. Be on time to your conference and please be respectful about not going over your allotted time. If you feel all of your concerns and questions haven't been addressed during your conference, please schedule a follow-up appointment.

Teachers need your help to do a first-class job. Together, you can help your child have a great school year.

Tech Challenge Information

2017 Challenge: "Rock the Ravine" for Grades 4-6Test Date - April 29, Saturday grade 4-5 morning; grade 6 afternoon

Challenge: design and build device (max 10 lbs) to move from table to table (please see official rules on the official website)

Team size: minimum of 2 maximum of 6

How does it work? – students form teams, brainstorm, come up with ideas, build it, test it, modify, rebuild, test, repeat cycle until they feel they have met the challenge; all meetings take place outside of school; all meetings scheduled amongst team members and parents;

What if I have no engineering background? – Perfect, you as parents should not be doing this challenge because you are not competing. Your students are. Your job is to help facilitate the meetings, drive them to meetings, provide snack and encouragement when they fail at their first test run. On April 29, students will head in to the challenge to face the judges as a team without any parents present. So the team must be able to answer the judges’ questions.

Not sure? Come hang out with other potential participants in the STEAM room on Nov. 4 and Nov. 18 (both Fridays) between 12-12:40pm I will be there to answer questions and collect names to try to put parents in touch with each other if needed
