Localgiving "Grow Your Tenner" - Still time to Double your Donations to Wellow charities

The three Wellow charities are doing really well in the Localgiving "Grow Your Tenner" match fund campaign. And there's still £100,000 left in the pot. So, if you haven't yet done so, go online and donate now. Every £10 donated online will be matched by £10, plus 25% Gift Aid where applicable.

Just go to www.localgiving.org and enter "Wellow" in the search box at the top of the page. Then choose from three Wellow charities:
  • Friends of St Julians Wellow
  • Wellow Parlour Shop
  • Wellow Valley Tennis (Wellow Recreation)

The fifth  session of the Mindfulness  & Christian meditation course will be held  in St. Julians Church vestry (warm!) on Thursday 3rd November at 8.00pm.

You will be very welcome whether you are new to meditation or have meditated for some time.

Wellow Church & Parish News November 2016

An invitation to join Archbishop Justin Welby for an Eco Prayer Service & informal launch of "Eco Church" in the Diocese of Bath & Wells

Please join
Archbishop Justin Welby
for
“Eco” Evening Prayers and
“Eco Church” in the Diocese of Bath & Wells

Please join Archbishop Justin Welby at Holy Trinity in Frome for Evening Prayers on November 8th at 5:15pm.

This is not a formal speaking engagement but an opportunity for the Archbishop and people with him to “rest and refresh and pray in the middle of a hugely busy day”.

This evening prayers service will be environmentally themed, focusing on “Creation Care”.  If you have an interest in the environment, we encourage you to come for the service and stay on for 20 minutes afterwards to hear about the new “Eco Church”initiative being rolled out in Bath & Wells.

As part of the Diocesan Strategy’s focus on “the Common Good”, we have a 5-year target of at least 150 churches to become “Eco Churches” and for Bath & Wells to become an Eco Diocese.  There will be a stand with information about the initiative in the church hall.

Due to the nature of the event, please be at the church by 4:50pm and follow instructions on arrival. The Archbishop is expected at 5:15pm, but he may arrive early and his time with us will be limited to 45 minutes.

We are aware that many of you may have tickets to hear the Archbishop speak at the Cheese and Grain event at 7:30pm. Holy Trinity is only a 10 minute walk away. The discussion at Holy Trinity will be over by 6.20pm at the latest, but there will be an opportunity to talk informally after that.

Please confirm your attendance to
Josie Halla
Ministry for Mission Administrator
johanna.halla@bathwells.anglican.org

If you are unable to attend but would like more information about “Eco Church”, please email David Maggs at david.maggs@bathwells.anglican.org.

Bulb Planting at Wellow/Shoscombe Cemetery

In November of last year a group of volunteers planted around 500 spring bulbs, which a number of people had very kindly donated. This resulted in an attractive display of flowers around the entrance of our Cemetery.

This year we are hoping to continue this work and extend the display further along the internal boundary, beneath the trees.

We are looking for volunteers for no more than two hours on a Saturday or Sunday morning in November (date to be agreed) to help with this work. We are also asking for donations of spring bulbs. Do you have any which are surplus to your requirements, or would you be willing to donate some new ones? We would be most grateful for what you can offer.

Please contact me if you are able to offer either time or bulbs, with your help the display next spring will be quite special. Thank you.
