Featured Art Documentary:

Art of America

This documentary features works by Norman Rockwell, Hopper, Gorky, and the American Expressionists: Newman, Pollock, Still, Kline and Rothko.  I loved seeing a tour of Jackson Pollock’s art studio in the state of New York as well as a tour of the Rothko chapel in Houston, Texas.

News from the Studio

This email marks the 3rd Anniversary of the Caprice Fine Art & Co Newsletter!  Can you believe that when it first began I was concerned that I wouldn’t have enough to talk about every month?   Little did I know at the time that I would have no problem talking about art on a regular basis!  I want to thank each and every one of you for joining me.  I appreciate that you not only take the time to read the newsletter, but also stay in touch on a regular basis and continue to share in my art journey.

I am enjoying the solitude in the Studio at the moment.  I’ve had time to sketch and to paint!  The dull skies and rain have certainly put me in a contemplative mood.  It has been a joy to not have to be on a fixed schedule with markets, classes etc.

In early October, I did my first Facebook LIVE event.  Despite some technical issues (I was upside down, then sideways before finally being right side up!) the video was a success.  A big thank you to everyone who tuned it.  I was thrilled to have over 150 views!  Wow.  I will be doing my next Facebook LIVE event on Saturday, November 12 at 1pm MST (3pm EST).  With Christmas just around the corner I will be discussing the best way to buy art.  Buying art is a big investment and there are a few things to always consider beforehand.  To find out more, please tune in to my Facebook page during the live broadcast and you can ask questions in the comment section and I will answer them.  If you miss the live broadcast the video will be available to watch at any time in my Caprice Fine Art & Co Facebook newsfeed.

Paintings

I often have paintings that I completed but never really liked.  This painting was pulled out of that hidden pile.  While the original had areas of success, I just didn’t feel it was up to my usual standards.  As I result I completely reworked it and the only parts that remained original were 3 of the trees!  I am much happier with the finished project and this painting is now available for sale at www.capriceartstudio.com

'100 Acre Wood', 9"X12", oil on canvas, available for sale from www.capriceartstudio.com.  Free shipping in Canada and no tax!

“Backyard Beauty” was finished last year and was posted in a past newsletter.  I was inspired by the autumn larch in my backyard.  As I recently pondered this painting in my studio, I realized the sky wasn’t quite correct.  I made a few adjustments to the one green tree and all of a sudden the issues with the sky corrected itself!  So here is the new and improved version.  What do you think?

'Backyard Beauty', 24"X16", oil on canvas, available for sale from www.capriceartstudio.com.  Free shipping in Canada and no tax!

All available original oil paintings are posted on the Caprice Fine Art & Co website.  If you are interested in purchasing a painting please keep in mind that there is no charge for shipping in Canada and there is no tax on paintings!  Order soon for shipments to arrive before Christmas.  Please note that repeat customers will receive a 10% discount. Purchases can be made via Paypal, credit card, cheque, email money transfer or cash.  Original Caprice paintings are sold exclusively from Caprice Fine Art & Co.

If the available paintings are not what you are looking for, perhaps a commission painting would work for your needs?  For more information, please send me an email.

Art Lessons

In mid-October, I finished up teaching 2 - 6 week classes.  Both groups of students were fantastic and it was a thrill to watch their work improve from week to week.  Not only was it a lot of fun, but we wound up with several converts from watercolours to oil paints!  I must have done my job right, as several students have already signed up for the spring classes!   So exciting.  I will be taking some time off from teaching over the winter months, but if you would like to join us in the spring for oil painting classes, please send me an email and I will add your name to the list. Keep an eye on the website, as I will be posting the dates to the Spring lessons this week!

Painting from the Vault!

On a road trip through BC in 2002, my Mom and I were driving through the Rogers Pass.  We came around a turn in the road and I saw a magnificent view of the mountains with the light hitting the mountain in a magical way.  At that point, I was wishing I could pull out my paints on the spot and put my memories down on canvas…but my inspiration had to wait until the end of our trip.  The entire trip provided me with endless inspiration but this painting is the result from my time spent in the Rogers Pass on that day.

HAPPY NOVEMBER!

I still have a few copies of the ‘2017 Kootenay Rockies Art Calendar’ available for sale!  It makes a great Christmas gift for only $20. There is no tax and free shipping in Canada.  My paintings are featured in the month of May.   Go to the website to purchase or stop by the Studio Gallery.

Caprice Fine Art & Co Studio Gallery in Kimberley will not be open in November.  This will give me plenty of time to get work done for the upcoming Christmas Season and to continue working on current commissions.  I will also be grudgingly working on my year-end books (ugh).  If you would like to visit the Studio during the month of November please drop me an email and I will be available to meet with you. Visitors are always welcome!

Have a wonderful month and I hope you will tune in to my Facebook LIVE event on Saturday.  See you there!

Have an EPIC day!

Book of the Month

Zen Seeing, Zen Drawing: Meditation in Action

by Frederick Franck

Lately I have been enjoying time with my pen and sketchpad…so I pulled this book off the bookshelf.  It is a great read and a reminder of the pleasures of drawing.  This book teaches you to “see” in a new way.
