Chief Frank was able to "trade in" the old rifles with a net cost of only $570 rather than the $5,000. The Board of Selectmen congratulated him on the savings.

WONDER HOW THE WATER TABLE IS DOING?

IF YOU HAVE A SHALLOW WELL, YOU CAN TAKE THE COVER OFF OF THE WELL TILES. YOU CAN SEE HOW MUCH WATER IS LEFT IN THE WELL BY DROPPING A WEIGHTED STRING UNTIL IT STOPS ON THE BOTTOM. BRING THE STRING UP AND MEASURE THE LENGTH OF THE WET PART OF THE STRING. MEASURE THE DIAMETER OF THE WELL TILE. CALCULATE THE AREA OF THE WELL TILE CIRCLE USING THIS FORMULA: AREA=1/4 TIMES 3.1415 TIMES (DIAMETER TIMES DIAMETER) - EXAMPLE BELOW. MULTIPLY THE WET LENGTH BY THE AREA OF THE CIRCLE. THIS WILL GIVE YOU CUBIC FEET OF WATER. THERE IS ABOUT 7.5 GALLONS OF WATER IN A CUBIC FOOT.

Example:
A string dropped into a well has 6 feet of wetness. The tile is 4 feet across.
The area of the tile circle is 1/4 x 3.1415 x (4x4)
The answer is 12.57 square feet of surface area
The depth is 6 so the volume is 6 x  12.57 is 75.42 cubic feet.
75.42 cubic feet times 7.5 gallons a cubic foot = 565 gallons of water.

A short cut would be to look at the high water mark at a lake or river and look at the current water level. The difference in height is related to a drop in the water table. A lower level in the lake is from less rain and that also impacts the water table.

We Want Your Info!
If you do check the depth and volume of your shallow wells, please let us know what you find. You may email us at townadmin@canaannh.org.

An example of helpful data would be that my shallow well is 25 feet deep and has 4 feet of water and I live at _______ (please give us your 911 address). Tell us if you are out of water or need to conserve a lot to prevent the well from going dry. You may also tell us if you need water. We will set up a source for you.

For everyone's sake, conserve water even if you have enough. Thank you.

NO, THE GRAVEL THAT WE USED TO "DRESS" THE SHOULDERS OF THE NEW PAVED ROADS IS NOT "BIONIC SOIL." IT IS UNCOMPACTED GRAVEL THAT WILL HAVE TO COMPRESS OVER TIME BEFORE IT IS FIRM. PLEASE USE CAUTION WHEN DRIVING ON IT.

"Can you hear me now?"

The cell tower site on Grist Mill Hill is still being considered.

The elevation at this site with the tower would be between 1,350 and 1,400 or about 100 feet lower than the Fernwood Farms Road site.

The tower would reach the village, the fairgrounds area, part way up Rt. 118 and would be able to tie to other activated towers.
