The Bluegrass Gospel Project Returns to Perform and Record at the Vergennes Opera House!

They just can’t stay away and audiences from far and wide can’t resist listening to the vocal harmonies and songs from the Bluegrass Gospel Project!

“You can almost hear the gratefulness coming out of the woodwork and walls of the 119-year-old theater whenever this group performs,” said Vergennes Opera House president, Gerianne Smart. “And we are delighted they are taking advantage of the acoustic richness of this wonderful space to do a live recording of the concert for their next album.”

Using their incredible vocal and musical talent, and their natural on-stage camaraderie, the Bluegrass Gospel Project explores and expands the tradition of bluegrass gospel with a wide range of music from U2 to the Stanley Brothers, Sam Cooke to Steve Earle.

Musicians include Taylor Armerding on mandolin and vocals, Gene White, Jr. on fiddle, percussion and vocals, Paul Miller on guitar and vocals, Steve Light on banjo, dobro, guitar and vocals, and Kirk Lord on upright base. Colby Crehan is the lead vocalist and will lend her formidable talent to sing familiar tunes as well as a few favorite original compositions.

Q & A w/ director Jay Craven

Guy de Maupassant’s 19th-century seaside novel, Pierre et Jean, is widely credited for changing the course of narrative fiction. The book introduced intense psychological complexity into its naturalistic depiction of a family brought to the breaking point through startling revelations.

The film stars 2014 Golden Globe winner Jacqueline Bisset (Day for Night, Bulllitt), Emmy winner and Tony nominee Gordon Clapp (NYPD Blue, Glengarry Glen Ross), Christian Coulson (Harry Potter: Chamber of Secrets, The Hours), Shane Patrick Kearns (Blue Collar Boys) and Diane Guerrero (Orange is the New Black).

Bald Mountain Theater presents
Puss in Boots: or How to get ahead in the world

Bald Mountain Theater, based out of Rochester, Vermont, brings their wildly original, all-ages adaptation of the classic story PUSS IN BOOTS, or How to get ahead in the world to 13 places in Vermont...including Vergennes!

Bald Mountain Theater LogoIn Bald Mountain’s fast and fun new adaptation, Puss in Boots is ambitious, driven to push his master to the top. Which begs the question for the son—and for us all—what kind of success do we want?

Expanded from the original story, this lively adaptation by Bald Mountain’s creative director Ethan Bowen features a small yet dynamic cast playing many roles paired with a driving original score that bursts into song. Bowen says, “This story is the American dream gone wild and we had a blast peopling the work with wonderfully vivid characters. Characters change on the fly, dialects flying every which way, and physical comedy is the rule of the day.”

Suitable for ages 6 and older with a running time of 1 hour.
TICKETS: Available at the door: $15 for adults, $10 for under 10 and over 65, and family of four $40. Reservations can be made by calling 802-767-4903 or email baldmountaintheater@gmail.com

Broadway Direct 2016!
A musical review of the lyrics and music of

Rogers & Hammerstein
Friday, December 9, 2016

This is the eleventh year Broadway professional, Vergennes resiBill Carmichaeldent, and local innkeeper Bill Carmichael has produced this show. Each year he entices several of his Broadway friends to make the trip from the biggest cities to the littlest city of Vergennes to present exceptional music, stories, and entertainment.

Once again Scott Nicholas will lend his formidable talent to Scott Nicholasaccompany the performers by playing the Opera House's beautifully restored grand piano.

Joining Bill and Scott on stage are a few familiar faces as well as some new faces: Kathryn Markey, David Rossetti and Lucy Sorensen. And, as in the past few years, the professional team is inviting several area students to join them in the evening's production.

Saint Michael’s Playhouse collaboration: This entire show, students and all, will also be performing two shows the very next day on Saturday, December 10th in Saint Michael’s Playhouse! This gives the students an incredible opportunity to perform with professional singers/actors on an equity stage!

This annual show has become a holiday-time favorite. No matter when or where you see it, it is NOT TO BE MISSED!
