Letter from the Directors
Dear Everest Family,

Last Saturday, ten Snow Leopards and many of their family members attended Preview Day at CSU Stanislaus. We were able to speak directly to school officials, tour the facilities, and learn a ton about the fantastic programs and majors this school has to offer.

It was so inspiring for us to see our students and families taking time out of their precious weekend to learn more about a potential college and the rigorous application process every student must go through in order to be accepted into a four year university.  We believe the level of student and family participation on this day was a testament to the college going culture we have nurtured here at Everest.  One of our favorite school mottos is “No Snow Leopard left behind!” This means we have a core belief that every student who walks in the door at Everest is capable of success in and through college. We hold our students to a high standard of college readiness, and our teachers work tirelessly to help students meet this standard.  Along with receiving support from their grade level teachers, our students have created long term college and career goals with their mentor.  It is the creation of these goals that helps students work hard when the hard work comes, and we remind our community every chance we get that our daily actions support our progress towards achieving these goals.

The ten students who participated in Preview Day at CSU Stanislaus were able to see this value come to life when they met with admissions counselors at the end of the day and were handed a certificate of acceptance.  The smiles, some from ear to ear - some muted in learned humility, were enough to fuel our work for another ten years. It was so incredible to see our students and their families filled with immense pride. This was a reminder that we want to do whatever it takes to help every student and every family at Everest feel this moment of exhilaration.  While the work we do everyday pushes us closer and closer to the endzone, on Wednesday, November 2nd, we will have a full day explicitly devoted to college readiness.  The details of that day are in an announcement below, and we are looking forward to growing our college culture even further with your student on this day.

We hope you all have a great week, and we are looking forward to sharing that moment when you and your student realize that their college dream has come true.

Sincerely,
Chris Lewine & Drew Moriates

NEWS FROM THE EPO

NOTE NEW DATE:  Evening EPO Meeting - Thursday, November 10th 7-8pm

The next evening EPO meeting will be on Thursday, November 10th from 7-8pm at Everest. Please plan on attending. You will be able to hear from our amazing administration team, Chris Lewine and Drew Moriates, they may talk about the state of the school, answer questions about our grading system, the PLP, talk about how we are trying to get into a league for our sports program to grow, get feedback on the All School Potluck and hear what you would like to see when it comes to events at our school, to name a few things. This is a great opportunity to learn more about what is going on at Everest, meet other Everest parents and get your questions about Everest answered in a casual setting. Remember - THIS IS OUR SCHOOL. We hope to see you there!

Teacher Appreciation Luncheon is a HUGE Success!

Last week the EPO hosted the monthly teacher appreciation luncheon, also known as the teachers favorite day of the month! A HUGE thank you to Mimi Tudor, who spearheaded the fun and delicious picnic luncheon with thoughtful touches including an adorable banner as well as mini hand sanitizers for each teacher to help keep our teachers healthy during the cold and flu season. And many thanks to the following people who contributed to the luncheon - Ann Kerr, Shellie Sakamoto, Nimisha Patel, Sharon Kovarick, Danielle Chritchley, Lisa Sweeney, Lorna Oshiro, Sue Exley, Arlene Marcos, Rosaura Garcia and Mary Wilson. The teachers truly felt appreciated!

Everest Open House Help Needed - Thursday, November 3rd

Do you remember coming to the Open House when your child was in 8th grade? Wasn't it great to see the friendly faces at the front door when you entered, and the nice drinks and snacks that were offered? We are looking for a couple more parents, both English and Spanish speaking parents, to help us welcome new families and tell them about your experience at Everest. We also need some donations of drinks, fruit and cookies. If you can help, please sign up here: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/9040b4aafae1-open1  As always, you help is greatly appreciated!

College Day/PSAT Testing

Wednesday, November 2nd will be a day devoted to helping Everest meet our mission of preparing all of our students for college and career.

In the morning, our 9th-11th grade students will be taking their PSAT exams. The PSAT is a valuable exam for students because it gives them firsthand practice with high stakes, external exams that are required for college admissions. This test is also valuable because students can use it to qualify for a National Merit Scholarship. The National Merit Scholarship awards high achieving students with scholarships of $2500. We believe both of these opportunities will serve our students well in helping them achieve their own college and career goals.

While the 9th-11th grade students are completing their PSAT exam, our 12th grade students will be engaged in personalized college application workshops with the 12th grade mentor team. We know that November is the most high volume month for completing college applications, and we will take this opportunity to support our students in reaching their desired college destinations. Workshops will range from completing UC/CSU/Common Applications, completing Early Opportunity Program applications, developing and editing personal statements, and submitting FAFSA applications.

The afternoon will give all students the opportunity to speak with Everest alumni and set personal goals for the paths they want to take through college.  We know students are their most productive and focused when they are able to connect their long term goals to daily actions, and we will be using College Day on November 2nd to make progress on these goals.

To be most successful on this day, please review the following details:

- There will not be an opportunity to make up PSAT exams. If a student is absent or tardy on this day, they will miss the PSAT test for this year.
- All students taking the PSAT will need to bring a College Board approved calculator, pencils, and reading materials for when they finish a section early.
- Students will not have access to their cell phones or computer during the testing period.
- Seniors who are submitting college applications should bring a form of payment as well as any other information they will need to complete their applications.
