The Hivos HIV and Human Rights Programme

Hivos is convinced that we can put an end to AIDS with a combination of social innovation, fair and equal access to medicines and health services, and increasing external and domestic investments in projects for and by Key Populations. The programme works regionally in Latin America, Southeast Asia and Southern Africa, and has three country programmes in Guatemala, Costa Rica and Bolivia.

Africa Strategic Partnership on Green Inclusive Energy Launches in Zimbabwe

The Partnership implemented by Hivos Southern Africa and East Africa will run from 2016-2020 in Malawi, Kenya, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe. Its strong focus on lobby seeks to influence ‘citizen agency’ and public debate to help push the transition from centralised energy production based on fossil fuels towards decentralised and inclusive energy systems in which citizens take central stage.

Shelter me regional campaigns for migrant domestic workers

Hivos, SNV and the Ministry in Hivos Southeast Asia, Migrant Care and Majal have campaigned on the range of abuses domestic workers from Southeast Asia face in the Gulf Region: non-payment of salaries, forced confinement, food deprivation, excessive workloads, and instances of severe psychological, physical, and sexual abuse.

Hivos East Africa’s new report on Kenya’s Fashion and Textile Industry

Hivos’ HIV Bolivia Project received a 2018 extension and a top A1 rating given by its donor, the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria in their most recent evaluation. The same project received the top score since 2012, awarded to programmes that “exceed expectations” in their overall performance.

Africa Biogas Partnership Programme wins prestigious award

ABPP has won the Community Development Programme of the Year Award at the highly regarded East African Power Industry Awards ceremony.  This was in recognition of ABPP’s leading role in establishing the largest commercially viable and market-oriented biogas sector in Africa.

Voice

Voice, managed and executed jointly by Oxfam Novib and Hivos, is a new innovative grant facility for the most marginalised and discriminated people in Nigeria, Niger, Mali, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Indonesia, Philippines, Laos and Cambodia. It aims to amplify and connect thus far unheard voices in efforts to leave no one behind.

Zimbabwe Drags Feet Implementing New Constitution

Since 2013, very little progress has been made in aligning Zimbabwe's laws to the new constitution, as highlighted at a recent ‘AMH Conversations’ event. Prominent lawyer and legislator Jessie Majome said that only 20 percent of the new constitution has been implemented so far.

National sexual violence survivor's conference in Timor Leste

The first-ever national survivor’s conference held in Dili, Timor Leste in August 2016. Attended by more than 200 people, including survivors from 12 municipalities, it was a space for survivors to share experiences and become a powerful voice against gender-based violence.
