It was great to see so many members, families and children about on our Open Day.
The day was a relaxed affair with Noel Craven being inducted as Life Member. The weather was favourable which allowed us to undertake the sail past and social sail over to St Kilda.
The sail past was very a colorful and cheerful event this year with many boats and sailors dressing for the occasion. Several boats of note were, Whispering - best dressed skipper and crew in their Tuxedos, Swallow - best dress ballerinas.
Once the cheering was over the fleet enjoyed a social sail over to St Kilda in the steady 10-15 knot northerly wind. After the sail there was lots of socialising on the deck where members, family and friends enjoyed a pleasant BBQ.

Discover Sailing Day - Sunday 9 January
Our discover Sailing Day will be held on Sun 8 January 2017.
Once again Peter Behrendt will be looking out for volunteers to assist in any capacity with any onshore activities such as, assisting with boat retrieval, facility tour-guides, BBQ, lifejacket fitting, on water sign on/off personal, tower, and most importantly on-water skippers of OTB & Trailable boats to help out on the day. We’ll need at least 6 skippers in each class, even if you can only volunteer for one hour the more the merrier. So if you're available please touch base with Peter.
Lets see if we can’t beat last years goal of 100+ guests who participated in an on-water sailing experience.

Lipton Cup - Saturday 19 & 20 November
Once again Williamstown Sailing Club will be hosting most of the monohull dinghy OTB class races whilst Port Melbourne Yacht Club will be hosting some dinghy but mostly multi-hull class races. There will be three races on the day for Off The Beach and Trailables, racing will start at 12pm.

BBQ rosters
All sailing members please be aware that a roster to staff the after race BBQs have been placed on the website this week, and will also be on the noticeboard at the club. We have tried to share the load among all sailing members. Those who have helped at a number of working bees during the winter generally are not required to help on the BBQ roster. Each member is responsible for checking when they are on roster, and organise their own swap if they are not available on their rostered day. When you are on roster, you are responsible for putting out the food, cooking the BBQ and cleaning up afterwards. The canteen helpers will generally prepare salads and onions. For some of you, particularly trailable sailors, it may mean de-rigging and packing away your boat may have to wait till after the BBQ.

Learn To Sail Program
Our annual learn to sail program will be starting at the club in early November. Additional helpers and experienced OTB skippers are needed for the one-on-one instruction, especially during the early stages of the program over the next few Saturday mornings between 9am-11:30am from 5 Nov.
Allan, Gary and Doug need all the help they can get during the easily stages of this training so please let them know if you’re available to help, even if its for a short period. A positive and friendly Sailing experience results in more trainees wanting to join the club and continue sailing with us.

Social news
The Social Committee have put together a calendar of various events for the coming sailing season as a result of the survey we did at the end of last season. So check it out the calendar of social events on the website and make sure you put some of the dates in your own calendar, so you don’t miss the events.
Save the dates
- Friday 4 November will be the first of our Friday night food, music and bar open evenings for the season. Fancy Hot Dogs will be the food theme, and some lively music will be provided from local musicians. These evenings are geared for our members and their guests to enjoy the great location and facilities at the club.
- Sunday 27 November - Sunday Breakfast from 9am - 11am.
- Friday 2 December - live music and Mexican themed night.
- Saturday 10 December - Christmas party with live music.
- Sunday 31 December - New Year’s Eve - Ticketed event - cover charge, live music, BYO food.
As the Clubs Liquor Licence does not allow for the consumption of BYO alcohol on club premises its important that all members support their club by purchasing drinks from the Bar, and as always remember to drink responsibly.

Fishing news
The annual Northern Port Phillip Bay Inter Club Fishing Competition between WSC and Albert Park Yachting & Angling Club (APYAC) is being hosted by APYAC this year on.
Sunday 13 November
Start Time: 12am (Midnight) - Sat 12 Nov
Finish Time: 12pm (Midday) - Sun 13 Nov
Weigh-in: 12pm - 1pm at APYAC. Fish must be weighed in by 1pm
BBQ from 2pm
Prizes will be given for: heaviest snapper, heaviest snapper bag and heaviest other fish. Prizes will only go out to members of both clubs only. Any club members interested in entering or wanting more details should contact James D’Aquino on 0410597550.

Membership Fees.
Membership fees are due by Saturday 8 November so please remember to ensure that you are a fully paid up member by then. For sailers the membership fee included the Sailing Australia personnel insurance so it's very important that all sailers are fully paid up prior to any racing.

TACKERS January program - bookings open
Once again the Williamstown Sailing Club will be offering TACKERS training programs during the upcoming summer school holidays. You may have family or friends that could be looking to find a new activity for their kids during the school holidays, the information is all on the club website.
TACKERS fleet has started.
All WSC junior and family members up to about 13 years old are invited to come and join in our TACKERS Fleet sessions which began on Saturday 15 October. They run from 10am till midday each Saturday through till the week before Xmas, and then again from mid-January. These activities are free and a benefit of you club membership.
At the Saturday morning sessions, parents must stay at the club. This year we will have a sign-in system and will be separating kids into skill levels to better target activities that suit them. We look forward to having parents assist as required including helping out in the canteen over the season.

Acting Secretary
During the past few month both the Commodore & Treasurer have undertaken some of the additional responsibilities of the Secretary role. The role of club Secretary is currently vacant and is a critical role within the club.
The Committee of Management (CoM) is seeking the assistance from any member who is able to undertake the role in an acting capacity. The acting secretary would be responsible for the following tasks
- Distribution of monthly CoM agenda
- Take minutes of CoM meeting and distribute to CoM
- Monitor and respond to general emails sent to the sailing club
- Receive new member applications
- Arrange new member inductions meeting
- Liaise with Flag Officers, Treasurer & Membership officer on new member applications
- Issue Salto Cards

WSC Office Saturdays
Over the past year our former Secretary (Leigh Farrell) did a fantastic job in attending the office almost every Saturday. Similarly for this season the clubs Treasurer has been in attendance in the office almost every weekend and its always surprising to see how general inquiries are fielded by the office. By simply having an additional person in office on Saturday’s between 10am - 11:30am it creates an opportunity for the club to welcome potential new members. However leaving this task to just one or two people is unfair on them and limits this club's capacity to respond to inquires.

Club Facilities & By-Laws
All boat owner who utilise the slipway are reminded of their responsibility in the use of the slipway.
- The owner’s name, the boat name and the planned dates for slipping and launching must be entered on the slipway notice board.
- The allotted time periods that a boat may occupy the railed slip are:
bottom cradle; under cover - 5 days;
top cradle; uncovered - 12 days.
This period may be extended or reduced at the discretion of the Slipmaster or Committee.
- All boats on the slip must be worked on or the owner will be requested to remove the boat.
- It is the responsibility of Members using the slipway to dispose of waste materials in a lawful manner. Any burning of waste materials is forbidden.
- Slipway must be cleaned to the satisfaction of the Slipmaster or, in his absence an Officer of the Committee, and;
- The slipway winch must be kept locked.
